  • Job search blooooooooooooog.

Ok, so as I posted in the New Job thread, the company I just went to work for in November has basically folded up and is out of business. As of today. There is some stuff going on to try and save the company, but I won't hold my breath. Even then, it probably isn't going to happen fast enough to just sit and wait.

So I am looking. I would like something similar to what I was doing. Basically driving a tour truck, whether marketing tours or something else. I have found several so far, but most look to be interested in hiring 'local' guys so they don't have to worry about getting them to the starting point, or are looking for guys for tours that are out 3 or even 9 months. I can't do that. I was just going to go out for 3 months and that was really pushing my time away from home limit.

I have already applied with one company online, and left a message for a company to call me back if they will hire guys out of their home state. There are about 2-3 others that I need to make a resume up for. Thankfully I just made one up a few months ago and can just add to it.

I would prefer something like these jobs over going back to Emerson. Problem is that it is going to have to happen pretty fast.

This will be interesting, but I am sure in the end I will have to take a solo OTR job or go back to Emerson.

real easy for me to say, but I will anyways

Be as paitient as you can. I have had enough "bad" jobs to know it is worth waiting, if possible, for the right one.

Well, no patience can be had here really. I will have to have something set by the end of next week. So that is why I said I will probably end up back with Emerson or taking a solo OTR job, atleast for a while while I look for something else or see what happens with the remains of my old company.

I liked Emerson enough I guess. It was a good company (good pay, benefits, decent time home) for a trucking job. The problem is that it is pretty much team driving only, especially for the area I live in. For my last two years there I just didn't want to drive team at all any more. I don't really want to go back to it. In fact I kind of dread doing it right now. It's hard to explain but team driving is not just working with someone every day, it's living with them. It would be the best thing for my family right this minute, money and insurance wise. But I would be miserable.

So it's a hard decision, fun times.

Ok, resume updated. I am sending it out to a few places today....

              http://www.campbell-ewald.com/

              and

              http://www.gojhe.com/index.asp

              and

              http://www.marketing-werks.com/main.html

They are all supposed to be looking for drivers, though I have few details about what I get from these companies in terms of pay, benefits, and the like. So I am not too optimistic. Still, I have to give it a shot.

I have one other company I think I will try, but I have to wait until Monday because I have to call. I think I am ruling out another one because they clearly say out 3 months or more and that is too much I think.

Got a response to my email w/ resume I sent to this JHE company yesterday. Guy is going to call me today or tomorrow.

Cool thing, they did the NFL on Fox Roadshow this year, they have the pictures on their website.

Why I won't get my hopes up at all, I think they want relocation if you don't live in NC. I can't picture myself living in NC.

Just turned down a job. I feel like shit turning down a cool sounding job when I am unemployed. I would have been going to most of the NASCAR races this year, starting with Daytona.

But, the pay was too low and the health insurance a little too high, especially for the low pay. Not to mention I would have had out of pocket expenses because time spent in Charlotte (home office) I would have to be paying for my own lodging(fucking stupid).

Contacted another place, but I would be gone for 5 months with them so that one isn't going to work.

Just talked to a guy about an oil industry job, gone 3 weeks, home 1. Pays by the hour, you work a million hours. Supposed to earn about 50-60k a year which is fine but the health insurance wouldn't kick in for 6 months and there is no vacation or holidays. The insurance pretty much kills that one.

Sounds like my old company will be reformed under new leadership
(mainly MacroGuru from FOFC and the guy who was my direct boss, Don). Wal-Mart really wants us to do the tours we were supposed to do starting next week. So hopefully that works out. I am not finding anything real good here so far and on top of that I wold get a raise if these guys get the company back up and going. Both of them felt drivers needed to be paid more, so a little extra never hurt too bad.

That sounds cool. How big was the company before it shut down?

And oil rig jobs are no good. If a giant asteroid is heading towards earth, you guys are the first ones they call, nobody needs that pressure.

R3 Media (the company I was with the last few months) was about 30 people only. These guys buy everything out from under the former owners to keep it going though, it is going to be smaller for a while.

In fact I understand if they get things to work out then we may have only 4 man teams for the tours. We usually have 5. One is the Tour Manager and 1 is the driver, so that only leaves two places for other guys. It would be a bunch of work, that's for sure. Still, I hope it happens.

Thankfully the oil rig guys who go onto the asteroids are the guys wh drill and not the ones who drive. Still, I don't think I would take that job long term.
