i thought ehm was too changed - didnt feel like hockey anymore, more like soccer with hockey stats. when i saw sports interactive pick up ootp i was afraid it would suffer the same fate.

I asked you to elaborate on this before in another thread (maybe you missed it). How did EHM feel like a soccer game, specifically? I always thought it was just a cop-out excuse for the guys who liked the original EHM better.

many different little things. here are just a few off the top of my head (havent played in half a year either, so im a little rusty). the way that all league are treated equally. news from the nhl should take precedence over news from the qmjhl (quebec major junior hockey league). chemistry and specifically line combos really felt un-realistic (this bothered me the most). hypothetically you want a playmaker, sniper, power forward as your forwards for a line (or a playmaker and two snipers, etc.). whenever i tried to build lines along sometype of theme (ie. two power forwards and a two way forward make up a checking line, a sniper a playmaker and an scorer make up a scoring line) i saw little results. adding a guy with a great shot to a decent second line SHOULD increase scoring as that guy would be the focal point of the line. but again, little results. i felt like the my lines were merely depth charts, regardless of talents. this reads more like a rant than an acutal argument, but i think it still holds SOME water. maybe its not quite soccer (i have no clue how soccer would be simmed) but it sure doesnt feel like hockey.

Thanks. Some of that does seem to make sense. I'm a rather casual hockey fan and really only follow the University of Minnesota. The pro game is almost too fast for me to follow and completely understand.

i think the ehm would be much more entertaining if you were following a smaller league, like a college team or one of the junior teams. with the talent (or lack thereof) at that level snipers would have an impact because they'd be the only ones that could shoot (and literally do nothing else) and defensive minded players could play defense (and not even smell the net). put that together with the emphasis on ALL leagues and not just the elite and you'd be able to watch that teenager who lit up your league for 200 pts go on to have a successful NHL career...or be mirred in the minors because he just can skate, play defense, take a hit, etc.
