  • Portland and my decisions

I created this to respond to BOSS however everyone is welcome to post their opinions so people will leave my trade block thread for trades rather then direct conversations with me. I will discuss and defend any criticisms about the direction I choose with the franchise.

If you wanted to put your own stamp on a team it should have been one that needed one. Rebuilding from scratch is very hard. This team had so much more left in them.

I wish we could roll back a few stages and have a do over and have you removed as the owner. Nothing personal man but you fubar'd that team.

I didn't care too much for Jeffrey but to see what he built up and you tore down in just a couple of days kinda makes me sick.

I wish the commishes would have offered the owner of Oakland now the chance to goto Portland and put you back in Oakland.
First of all, you've been somewhat of a venomous owner for the last few years so I wasn't even going to respond, however the aggressiveness of the post more or less demands one.

I've been an owner in this league since it was formed minus two vacations. For the most part my teams have always been competitive, with the exception of the early years in the league when I admittedly didn't quite know the best way to go about this.
The tone of your post is quite disturbing. You act as if I have no idea what I'm doing and intentionally destroying a great team however, I have studied the team and the one thing that stood out to me was the age. Most of the players, including key players were for the most part, all entering their 10th-12th season. As anyone knows who has played this game, including yourself, not only will their skills start declining rapidly, the trade value of those players degrades to almost nothing around the 12th season which would have put me in a tough spot as the majority of the team would start retiring in huge numbers 5-6 a year for the next 4 seasons.

Now I could have gone deep into the playoffs THIS year with the great team Jeffery left, or I can look to the future of the franchise and rebuild while the players have good trade value, netting me numerous draft pick allowing me to start a youth movement in Portland which would assure the franchise a chance to win for the next decade, rather then the next 2 seasons. I choose the latter.

Second of all, it's none of your business what I do with this team. If Matt didn't feel as if I was a positive owner or made good decisions he wouldn't have invited me to return to the league. Aside from DG, who entered the league, traded away all his draft picks and has yet to obtain a winning record, I've never said a word about what any owner does with his team. Every owner has his own methodology on the way he wants to run his team and has the freedom to do so. While rebuilding Portland may seem extreme, it's the best way to win in the future, rather then selling out to win just this year.

I enjoy this team and this league and welcome the opinion of any owner, but I know WTF I am doing or I wouldn't have done it in the fashion I did.

While I don't agree with the methodology of trading away good talent and cohesion for picks, you are not the first, and won't be the last to do this. I think you could have competed, not just this year, but the next 3ish or more years. Even with diminished bars, cohesive players are valuable.

Each person is given the right to run their organization as they deem fit as long as they are an active owner and play within the rules of the constitution. This is what jave wants to do, so we will trust that his moves will get him to his goals. He has always had competitive teams, so this shows me that the situation will not be different.

said my 2 cents (canadian cents even)

Jave took a team that vegas thought one of the favorites to win the title this year and turned it into a pos slug. Destroyed one of the rare power houses in the conference. Its okay Jave when you run through these draft picks and dont have a team anywhere near as good as the one Jefferey put together you will have something come up in real life and leave the league again. I feel another move in your future after a few IFL seasons. 'vacation' as you called it.

      P.S.

I think BOSS is right. When you reapplied to this league I think Matt shoulda offered the current owner of Oakland a great team like Portland and stuck you back in your previous posistion as GM of Oakland.

I've already passed word to Cringer on this one - I don't like it one bit. I see Jave overpaying dearly for a guy he has clearly fallen in love with for less than 20 hours - 20 hours! The draft is two weeks away. It wasn't long ago that Tod Woods was ranked number one in my green page listing and Jave was talking up a storm about the guy. Woods himself is probably as or more valuable than the number two pick. While runningback is a valuable position, defensive tackle is not far behind.

I'm asking that this trade be modified or redone totally. I don't feel it is good for the league or for it's reputation as being competitive. Please discuss and don't be afraid to share what's on your mind.

And if I remember correctly, I was in the IFL bowl 3 seasons after that trade. Javegate for those of you who weren't around at the time:jerkit:

P.S. I picked up some guy.....ohh what was his name....some quarterback named Hamilton or something like that...yea, pretty sure I know how to build a team.

I personnally don't care what a GM is doing with his team. As long as he's staying to live with the consequences. If you do so, I'm good with the moves you made. If you leave in 1-2 seasons, then I agree, these moves would be detrimental to the league.

If it were a new owner this would scare me. Being that it's Jave and the IFL seriously needed a posting boost I like it.

FWIW - I focused on cohesion and affinities last season and it worked out OK. I won't take them lightly anymore.

Also, can you PM me the font you used for "TRADED", Jave?

Whatever you think about each specific trade, Jave is his own man and should be free to make his own decisions about his team.
The league is better off for Jave being back and we all know him well enough that he isn't just imploding his new team.

                I'm with Jave here.

I still want to know if this was your plan all along WHY did you not take a team like Little Rock or West Virginia to put this plan into action?? WHY gut a championship team?? Just makes no fucking sense at all.

I don't owe you an explanation for anything I do, and I don't have to justify anything I do regarding MY TEAM. Instead of arguing with me about how I run my team, take a look and see if there's anyone you would like to trade for that will help your team. You went 6-10 last year. I'm sure your team could use a good player.
