Exactly. And I have had NUMEROUS rookies turn down more years. Dont you think every single owner would sign his first round pick to the longest contract available. Look at the first round signings. Notice that a lot of them are NOT for the longer term?

WOW, so whats the point of the agent if the game has already coded in what the guy will and will not accept? Odd.

Figures, I get the fucking greedy guy. This is the kind of prick who will catch 27 balls for 500yds and 4 touchdowns and hold out next year for a bigger contract.

I wanted to hide him for the preseason anyway, so this works for me either way.

A lot of people know more than me and what I'm about to say is from many patches ago but I think I offered a player the longer contract in solo-play and at some point in the season he finally accepted.

About your other point first, that's weird it's never happened to you. Since cap space is plenty, every season I offer all my rookies worth signing the highest $$ and years first, like you're probably doing, but it seems 1-2 a year reject that. They'll always sign the highest $$ with one less year offer before training camp (fucking forgot to submit those offers in my pre-TC export this year grr)

And your quote point, it is odd, but this game is weird like that. Look at the lazy coaching and financial system put in place. If the other guys are right (I've never pushed a rookie that hard), then having an agent this early is simply just a coding thing to give them an agent so down the road they can handle re-negotiations.

Maybe the agent determines the 4 offers you're given? Although probably not, that's probably determined by rating / position. Look at the last few top picks and their agent rating:

                    2014: $39.44 / 5 years (58 )
                    2015: $41.31 / 5 years (19)
                    2016: $43.21 / 5 years (8 )
                    2017: $45.08 / 5 years (53)
                    2018: $46.99 / 5 years (58 )

Seems to be a consistent increase year to year regardless of the agent. 2017 and 2018 you have 70+ rated QB's with mid range agents and they accept $2-$3m more than Clyde Andruzzi's offer? Ok, maybe since Wingfield (2016) is 96/96, but he only gets $2m more than a 68/68 WR from Bennie "pushover" Dunlap?

I'm curious now..maybe it's a position issue? I don't remember having problems signing Martinez, but that was so long ago and I'm not sure if there's a way to track what each rookie signed for. I'd love to see some statistics on the position/contract offers/rejections.

And I'm not just bitching, I'm actually dead serious. I don't remember any rookie I've ever signed rejecting the higher $, higher year offers. They constantly reject the lower $ higher year, so I stopped offering it to save time. Stuart is the first who has refused to sign the higher year offer regardless of the $.

I've always noticed the opposite so I do as Beans said: High years/high $$$ first and if they decline, which they usually do, then I go low years/high $$$ for an automatic sign.

That final year is key. It may seem insane to just not give the guy what he wants, however keep in mind, after the rookie contract, if the guy is any good at all, the contract can double, sometimes triple. Having the ONE MORE YEAR to free up the cap space is worth a little rust for the first 2 games of the season. He won't start this year anyway. I had to do everything I could to get the 5 year deal.

If a guy is really good and not getting paid much, there's a good chance they'll hold out in that 4th or 5th year. I tend to just give guys what they want to get them into camp.

We get two chances before training camp, assuming you aren't changing the rookies weight. Why not take a stab at the longer contract first?
