That is correct.. to be honest I was surprised to read that when I re-posted the excerpt of the rules, because I always thought it was for all contracts. But the rules do say that it's ok if the contract spans over more than 2 years.

thought the same thing initially until a year or two ago i was in a bidding war with someone who popped a 3rd year on a FA so he could overpay on the bonus to get him..and it worked.

i cant say i have a huge problem with it, as noted many times the financials are quite broken.

I don't have a problem if an owner is willing to overpay(and massively as in the case this year) as long as they are forced to pay what they offered. Not cheat, and sign him to a 40 million dollar deal during FA, then a year later use the poor game AI and resign him for half that the following season. That's cheating. If your gonna pay 4X what a player is worth during free agency, then you have to stick to it.

Not cheat, and sign him to a 40 million dollar deal during FA, then a year later use the poor game AI and resign him for half that the following season. That's cheating. We have rules for that here...you can't renegotiate until the last year of the contract.

You sure? I just did my normal resigning on FA1, which includes going down everyone on my roster that I'd like to have longer.* With the amount of resignings on the transactions page I'd say others did as well.

I'm pretty sure that rule failed to pass when voted on for a reason that started a big thing last time so I won't bring it up again. I don't see anything about it in the league constitution.

still has $10mil in signing bonus agaisnt the cap. any re-negotiation will add even more bonus money. thus the rule on contracts and signing bonus.

nothing illegal is being done here. I know I'm beating a dead horse here, and we went over this last offseason, but it's far too easy to resign your good players and have cap room available afterwards to sign guys like Cash to some big contracts.
