As r00k and maybe others have pointed out to you this is a grown-ups league.

BTW - When you're gone it's probably going to be yours truly that FIXES (the word actually fits here) what you've done to the Dakota franchise since, you see, the real way to a challenge is simply to let a fool like you run the team for an off-season to dig me the hole that I'll have to work out of.

If you put such a small percentage of the time that you've put into trying to change the IFL into looking at the 10-15 simple gameplan screens in FOF you'd know it all by now.

You really boggle me running this "I can't gameplan" excuse up the flagpole all the time. There is nothing complex about a system that merely uses percentages in given situations.

If you haven't learned how to gameplan in FOF by now then I assume that you're just one of those people who's decided he doesn't ever have to learn or mentally exert himself again, which makes sense since you can't make even the slightest adjustment away from your preferred financial specifics.

I'm not really in the mood of entertaining change at this point. Typically we vote for changes at the end of the season. It's not open season on rule changes.

I know r00k had a brainwave and was just sharing it. I don't anticipate an official proposal from Suicane or myself anytime during this season.

so hopefully, that puts this to bed.

Okay don Juan. I am not the only one calling for a rule to be put in place i believe almost 50% of the people who voted were calling for it and no way is that shitting on the league. Your just sitting here doing your little attack mode because your mad I said you enjoy it easy and its the truth.

I'm not sure what you're looking for, you'd find anywhere else either. FOF is broken, but honestly I think it's not as broken as you may think.

The NFL is not exactly flooded every off-season by great talent. Let's look at 2009, and go by espn's rankings..
                http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/fa?sort=grade

That list isn't exactly great. going down the list..

Albert Haynesworth - Best player by far
Terrell Owens - released. Massive personality issues.
Nnamdi Asomugha - re-signed with team (scratch off list)
                Julius Peppers - franchised (scratch)
                Terrell Suggs - franchised (scratch)
                Karlos Dansby - franchised (scratch)
                DeAngelo Hall - re-signed (scratch)
                T.J. Houshmandzadeh
Torry Holt - released, but has health issues
                Matt Cassel - franchised (scratch)
                Jordan Gross - re-signed (scratch)
Marvin Harrison - released, health problems as well, definitely lost a step
                Brandon Jacobs - franchised (scratch)
                Ray Lewis - re-signed (scratch)
                Kurt Warner - re-signed (scratch)
                Oshiomogho Atogwe - franchised (scratch)
                Leroy Hill - franchised (scratch)
Orlando Pace - released, because he's old
                Darren Sproles - franchised (scratch)
                Antonio Bryant - franchised (scratch)
                Dunta Robinson - franchised (scratch)

Then you have Bart Scott and the rest of the list. So out of the best players available, you only have two who hit FA as complete unrestricted players, and weren't franchised, and signed with other teams. Then you have a few released players, all who have either health or personality problems.

Many of the good teams build through the draft, and win because they gameplan the shit out of their opponents.

The major difference between the NFL and FOF leagues are that the demands from players aren't higher, so teams aren't pressed higher against the cap, and the occasional Haynsworth never makes it to FA. That's a game mechanic problem, and no rule suggested so far will fix that problem.

Nice work digging up all that info. Also, every year someone over pays for a Javon Walker. A once talented player who suddenly is not and gets a huge payout and then they restructure or cut him.

True. It seems to be used on the stud players so they cannot leave via FA. Haynesworth is an exception to the rule. Kind of how Cassel and Peppers were tagged. Basically so you can get value instead of not signing them.

                        • I was determined to exit this "conversation" but I think Matt's stumbled onto the most promising idea yet....

There's a quick and easily checkable way to higher contracts: Don't allow the use of franchise tags in the IFL. No one has to even look at contracts. The "F" would be noticeable at some point during the season and nullify the contract.

This would force 20+ precedent changing contracts each season eventually rippling through the IFL.

FOF's "problem" shines nowhere brighter than when the likes of Tobias Stanfield ask for 3 years at $55M and I can simply say "No. I'll slap you with $8M for a very short term no-risk 1 season contract that you don't even want."

While I am one of the 'I dont really need change' people, this CERTAINLY would shake things up. IF you people REALLY want more free agents to hit the market, this is your final answer.

                            • The franchise tag thing is definitely interesting. In FOF it's very straight forward and somewhat abusive. You can pretty much slap the tag on a player every year without penalty. The top 5 salaries usually aren't that high either, so it's not like it's that big a deal to sign players. The NFL franchise tags are generally $3m+ per position than in the IFL, and we're in 2014 when salaries are supposed to be inflated.

From what I understand, like the Peppers situation, if a team offers the tag, it automatically gets counted towards the salary cap, but the player is not guaranteed yet. Peppers has yet to sign his offer sheet, so the team is basically stuck with him, but they don't have him. He can hold out and still count towards the salary cap, correct?

So yea, I don't think it's a bad idea to get rid of the franchise tag next season, i'd think about this but if it was put up for a vote, i'd strongly consider it.

FWIW, the lack of tag is what helped Torres get on the market, which could help the league.

                              • fat Albert was tagged going into 2008. His agent was a smart guy and FA signed an incentive laden contract for 2008 that prevented Tennessee from tagging him if he met one of like 4 incentives. League rules prevented Titans from talking contract till off-season. By that time FA was just a few weeks away from testing UFA, and he liked what he found. Rumor has it Titans were within a couple of million, but more likley FA's agent was just trying to raise the floor before UFA started.
