We lost four players off of our 2009 Championship Team: MLB Tony Martin, WLB Jonathan Leong, SS Paul Runnels, and LCB Joseph Alsup. Losing Alsup really hurts moving forward as I assumed I had him for at least one more season.

I had a choice to let us both be stubborn and the Phantoms remain a bad team like Cali or I could "overpay" and turn one of our teams back into a winner. The guy fit in nicely with the hole I had at safety and helped us reel off 7 straight victories and is now back for another season. You can keep the losses and brilliant trade strategy - I'll take the wins while losing a 4th.

I'm sorry, i must've missed something - did the Phantoms actually make the playoffs? cuz last i checked they didn't, and only accomplished trading a shot at a nice pick for a pick that's out of the top 15. that's all that was accomplished. there's either making the playoffs or sucking really bad, there's no in between. my team sucking bad got my a #6 overall pick, i can now pick up someone really useful to add to my rebuilding team. all you did was ruin what would've been a great pick. if you're happy to have missed the playoffs and a good pick, that's your prob.

How did I miss a good pick when the draft is yet to come? And btw 14 is not out of the top 15 but if the sequential number system confuses you then I can see why the concept of wins and losses boggles you well into your Nth season of being a football fan.

I won games. That's the focus of this thing of ours.

You seem to think that this game is more cyclical than it is. You're not guaranteed a good team by stockpiling bad seasons and high picks. You've got to learn to win, which you haven't shown that you can do yet.

If you think the Zeroes were more successful than the Phantoms because you got a higher pick then you have the single most backwards view of this 'football' thing that I've ever witnessed.

what did you accomplish? you missed the playoffs and missed out on a chance to aquire a great stud rookie. granted, you can still aquire a stud rookie, but now you gotta give up more. so instead of missing the playoffs by a lot and winding up with a good pick, you're happy to miss the playoffs by a slim margin and wind up with an average pick. that's nice. i'll let you know how good that strategy is 3 to 4 seasons from now when the two top 10 picks i select blossom into players that contribute to my playoff teams.

3-4 seasons from now??? What are you on the 18 year plan? The Matt Millen strategy?

All you have to do to see the results of my strategy is go to "Team Performances", where your team is soon to be dead last, and rank by any criteria you want.

i wasn't around for the inaugural draft, or else i would've selected players worth keeping around for 10+ years like NFK has done. i came into the league towards the end of 2007, so we judge from there. when you got crap to work with it takes time to get things squared off to your liking. these next 2 seasons are when you'll be seeing the big boppers come out. rebuilding is going according to plan. i got the best WR, got my RB for the next 10 years, ditto for TE. great WR depth, great RB depth. offensively we can rock n' roll. so now i work on the defense.

that's like making fun of any guy who takes over the Lions or the Cardinals in the NFL. anyone taking over those teams don't got much to work with, so the overhaul of the team ain't gonna happen overnite.

Initial draft means little after the first few seasons imo. I wasn't part of the draft, but the original Houston owner didn't do a bad job. He got a young QB, young RB, two really good WR's, and a few other good players. Before the team had a chance to fully develop, the QB and WR got major injuries and tanked.

Then you had teams like Oakland who also drafted the young guys who would be worth keeping around for 10+ years, and that worked well when they peaked (went to the IFL Bowl) but then had to re-build because it cost a fortune to keep all those young stars around.

I'm not trying to bash you or get in the middle of this debate, but just pointing out that the initial draft argument is bunk now.
