The yearly bonus amount in one-year AND two-year deals offered to free agents cannot exceed the yearly amount of salary. Here is an example of a contract that is illegal.

Total Bonus - 8 million
Year 1 Salary = 2 million, Year 1 Bonus = 4 million
Year 2 Salary = 2 million, Year 2 Bonus = 4 million

The maximum total bonus allowed with those salaries would be 4 million (two million in year 1 and year 2).


Pittsburghs Contract with LB Emmanuel Hesse does not fit under the new rules. It will be voided when Stage 4 Is Run and he will be available again for Stage 5.

I would've brought this up sooner but I just noticed it last night doing renegs:

One of my players wanted $6.6M bonus on a 3 year deal that paid $2.3M in salary and $2.2M in bonus on the 3rd year with the first two obviously higher bonus than salary About $930k and $1.9M I believe were the first 2 salaries.

I'd guess from this it's possible we'll see FA asking for more bonus than salary at some point though you guys with more experience can chime in on whether you've seen it yet.

Yeah, but remove the 3rd season from the request I got and you've got a contract requested by the player that breaks our house rule. I'm not sure if it'll ever come up but just put it out there sooner than later.

no they can't. They see what everyone else sees.

Just wanted to "bump" this (even though it's a sticky) for the unsigned draftees. Bonus cannot be higher than the accumulated value of the entire yearly contract.
