Tulsa picks that QB I just picked for them, based on in game needs

Hahaha. I had him slated for my last pick. Yea, I didn't need him, but he had good bars and I was curious how he would turn out. When he was picked it was a scramble. I looked for a big, strong mofo for my o-line and think I got my moneys worth in Ralph Friedgen RT. While not that skilled, he is one big mofo who will at least take up space.

frankly im a bit bummed about the utility and the draft. this is twice now i have been away a few hours and had a run of a lot of picks that caused me to end up being moderator picked. the 4th rd pick was at least a need the damn game claimed. this 7th rd pick is a position i have absolutely no remote need at all. im sure i have been the victim of bad luck in terms of runs of picks happening while im away but this is a bit much. i modified my list to make sure 6-24 worked out and then left for a meeting out of the office...that was about 5 hours ago. now we have shot past my late 7th in that time period...i dont have any wonderful solutions and making a list of 30 players on the fly from my office w/o game access is a bit unreasonable to expect...and to see Jave's whiny ass talking about moving faster and about guys missing picks because they dont check in is bullshit...

i suggest we make it absolutely fair for all of us next year and just sim the draft. then it only takes one stage. the draft is the best partof the game and we always try and finish as fast as possible...we really need to think about the draft some more. we pride ourselves in not running multiple sims a week and we are a slower paced league...but when the draft gets here we just blow our wads all over the place as quickly as we can...this isnt consistent and isnt fair to those of us who have jobs and lives...

and before you post your smart ass response about making lists 50 players deep or using the best available TE option dont waste your time...im inviting serious thoughtful discussion and not the usual drivel...so if thats your plan ---- my response is for you to fuck off...

I made your last pick. All "need" positions were picked, so I selected the best available player.

History tells me that you are one of the guys that always has to make their picks live. That's fine and peachy, but you aren't around enough to accomplish that. So guess what? You have mod picks made for you.

And you do not need to make 30-50 person lists. Guys are generally looking for pretty different things at this point in the draft. A 10-15 person list could probably get through the last two rounds.

So if we disagree with you then we can fuck off? Make lists. You had the same opportunity as every other owner in the league why are you so upset? I saw at least 25 of our owners who were active and made their own picks. You were unable to do so, so we should sim the entire draft? Don't get upset, make lists or at least get a hold of Suicane and explain your situation. He was online like fucking 14 hours a day. He would have helped.

i did use a list of about 12 players i made earlier...it worked about 1 rd deep....i only made 1 pick live this year i think...its was pick 1-27...the others i made via lists...so lets not go there...i use them...i can adapt to a non-forum draft in a utility...

heres where i have some issues....we need to consider a stop mechanism of some sort for when a run of picks happens and we hit a non-list team...maybe something like if we exceed 10 picks in a 3-4 period then the next non-list team we get to has an extra hour or two to get back online to refresh the list etc...for me its hard when we have 20 picks run off in a few hours time like with my 4th rd and 7th rd picks...i showed up what appeared to be just minutes late to get a new list or a pick made...thats the stuff im talking about...

i dont like waiting long periods of time when guys arent showing up either...maybe make the utility smart enough to know if you logged into it in the last four hours and to flag your account as active and here recently...that could work hand in hand with the extra time after a run of picks...

just some thoughts in the general vague sense on some improvements...

and for the record i was here and made my picks for the most part...i missed a couple by short windows...this is the response that isnt productive...i did those things...im not asking about opportunity...what im talking about is we run a slow but steady league all season long until the draft...we didnt even rush FA...

so my comment about simming the draft is to make a point...the point is why slow and steady with everything but the draft....

so add me to your list of active guys who made lists and made my own picks...hell i even traded a couple picks around with other teams during our draft...obviously i have been here...

I'm not sure if Jeff would allow this, but I took the week off thanks to my fiancee's fat ass bank account. I was online nearly every minute of this draft. If you had given me an outline of your draft needs I could have helped. I would have given you my phone number if necessary so we could talk near the times your pick was comming up. I will do anything to help our long time owners. If you had asked for help I would have offered.

The draft isn't perfect but there isn't much options really. If an owners pick comes up at 9am and he isn't able to log on untill 4 I don't think there is much beyond lists we can do bro.

i made my first round pick live, next 2 picks were made via my list. i didn't have to be around that much. it's about checking in whenever you can, seeing how far away you are and then making a list with that number of guys. i made a 6 person list during the 2nd round, when i had 2 picks. i got both of the guys on my 6 person list. you just have to live with getting any of the people you put on your list. if you make a list via utility then it shouldn't be you put down guys you wouldn't want to get. what's the difference if you make the pick or if your utility makes it? with my 6 person list i was fine with getting any one of the guys on it, so it didn't matter if i was there live to make the pick or if my list was utilized. i didn't hold up the draft at all and i got the guys i targeted. everyone's happy.

I get where you're coming from DB, the problem is that the utility is the best way for us to draft and it's pretty much set in concrete the way it works. Nobody here has the know how to fiddle with it outside of the easiest of fixes. Basicaly we use it as it is or we don't use it, and we pretty much need to use it for the overall ease of everyone. Jeff did suggest going untimed today and tommorow since we were gonna finish in time anyway, I put the kaybash on that idea but maybe he was right, perhaps next year if we're in this same situation that wouldnt be a bad idea. My only worry was that I was positive certain guys would not show up in any due time and could have held the round up for many, many hours.

I do know that next years draft will have penalites for those who miss multiple picks as has been discussed before but not implemented.

Thing is, there are guys who I know arn't bothering, and thus using all the time, and guys who I know are bothering but for whatever reason just missed their time, and I can't really treat them differently except to penalize those who miss multiple picks.

Trust me, I know that people have lives and can't be around a large majority of the time in alot of situations. I'm open to workable input and will definately have some different guidlines for next years draft.

All in all though I think we did pretty damn good.

Damn, I am pissed at myself a little.

After my 4.28 pick I figured I wouldn't be able to grab a chance to get online at the right time to draft live for my 6th and 7th round picks. I set a list of 14 guys or so, and then added two BEST OF's at the end. I checked online this afternoon I think it was, and it was 2 or 3 picks before my 6th rounder. I still had 2 guys left on my list and then someone took one while I was online. I left hoping I would get my last named player.

I didn't get him because I screwed up I think. I am guessing I had the option to not draft the same position twice in a row checked. The guy I wanted was a DT, and I had taken a DT with 4.28. I was given the best FB instead and Murfreesboro grabbed the DT I would have had in the 7th round. DOH! Not the end of the world by any stretch, just kicking myself for not seeing that mistake ahead of time.
