  • Editorial Poll re: Trading

Active trading has produced a real lackluster showing this year. Any thoughts?

Actually I think it is a combo of all of the above. However, it seems that more teams are trying to stay pat and see what FA and the draft will bring.

FA was not that exciting either until this thing with Colella. He has the potential to change the complexion of a team.

I might've chosen. I'm too lethargic to explain further.

I say not a lot of teams are buying. I voted lethargy.
I have some nice pieces to trade and not one sniff. You cannot tell me Devon Taylor would not help a team. As a QB, he still has at least 3 seasons left. Yet not one offer on him. Ridiculous.

The problem is...especially for a new developing team like mine, do I really want to part with high draft picks for a QB in their 12th year...

Taylor is good for 3 seasons. He is also a mentor and pretty cheap.
And who said I want high draft picks?

If taylor was in his 9th or 10th yr there'd be more interest.

A lot depends on if he actually plays and if someone gives him multiple year contract.

He asked me what it would take. I told him I would take a 2nd and 3rd or a 1st. I shoot high and he asked. He rejected that so I went down on the next offer.

i've done the research. there's only 1 QB still on a roster who is in his 15th year. Taylor is in his 12th year, i believe. what's to say he's one of the few QBs who make it to that 15th year. also, there is only 1 QB in his 13th yr who is still on an active roster. most every QB in this league is in the 10-12 range. Virgil Sep is the only QB in his 10th year still in the top 5. basically there is a big dropoff in ratings for QB after their 10th year, hence my 3 year offer for Colella. at this point his accuracy rating ain't gonna get any better. and all those bars that make him look so sexy are only gonna decline. still a top 5 QB, but the odds aren't with him - he's a 9th yr QB. good enough to be top 5 maybe till that 12th yr, but i don't want to be paying him $16+million for that 13th, 14th or even 15th season. oof.

there hasn't been much trading cuz this season i've decided instead of adding vets in that 8th-10th year experience range, i will keep my picks and add some young talent. even if they don't pan out and become Pro Bowlers, at least i can add some great young depth. my cohesion is not good, so i need to focus on bringing in young guys i can keep for the next 5 or 6 seasons. if they pan out - great. if they don't they can still contribute by coming off my bench and adding to my thin reserves. i've done enough recon on other teams to know my 2nd and 3rd round picks will most likely pan out and become starters.
