I remember Jim saying once, I think, that leagues should come up with their own house rules to cover stuff the game doesn't handle. To my knowledge, the mutliplayer version of the game does not give warnings backloaded contracts. The single player version might, but the mutliplayer doesn't.

It's called common sense.Originally posted by Hell Atlantic View Postsilly me, i didn't know the game accepted fucked up contacts. with all the nerds at FOFC who point out every small bug i would've thought this would be addressed if it was a prob. at what point do we know when the game is flawed and when the game is making a "thought out" decision?

Jeff and I had a long talk last night. In the end although i was trying to think of ways for you not to lose Dennis The Menace I had to keep coming back to the fact that you offered him an insanely bad contract with mallice in the offer. To rely that the game will reject it isn't enough. You knew it was a horrible deal and you still did it.I luv British womenz.

you can't use common sense for something like this scenario. me as Gm and Collela as a player are at opposite ends of the negotiating table. so now i'm supposed to offer a deal that i'm trying to make as favorable for the "team i work for" while at the same time trying to pay Collela as close to the deal he's asking for? this scenario doesn't exist. obviously there's limitations here since we're dealing with algorhythms and formulas and not an actual player, but how do you know when a player's loyalty rating/strength of his agent is coming into play and when you're apparently trying to cheat the game? i don't need to cheat in MP - there's not cash prizes or anything. i don't cheat for bragging rights. these things happen rather fast and there's no way to pull an offer back if the commish deems it to be not fair.Originally posted by Jave View PostIt's called common sense.
i can't debate you on this, because you're too quick to just throw money around to your players instead of trying to run your team like a business.

Just because the game will "let" you do something doesn't make it right or fair. It just means that you have stumbled upon a flaw in the game's logic. I remember a few versions back in MP FOFB where you could log into your game as the commish, cut a a signed player and then re-sign him (in the same export) as FA for a fraction of what you were paying him then upload that export and no one would be the wiser. That make it fair or ethical to that just because the game would let you?

i don't see anything "unfair" about offering nearly double the signing bonus the player was asking for. it's called negotiation. he says what he's looking for. i counter with what i'd like to pay. in my mind i wasn't going to allow him to take up 25 percent of my cap, but i certainly had no prob greatly increasing his guaranteed money.
the problem is FOF doesn't let you edit anything. if there was a way to edit stuff, the commish could reset any contract that he deems to be "unfair" or unreasonable. the GM gets screwed cuz the player accept the contract and there's nothing to do to erase it and basically start over from scratch.

again, i didn't know it was a bad deal. backloaded, yes, but backloaded with being able to be released since you won't have a huge cap hit is different than having a backloaded deal and your employer will have a $6million cap hit if he cuts you that last year of the balloon payment. that's why i thought this deal would have SOME shot at being considered plausible. i didn't think it'd go through, but i thought smarmy jeff would say "normally this is a bad backloaded deal, but since HA offered an insane amount of bonus and essentially is stuck with Collela - win or lose - he can keep him". bonus means everything. year to year salary can ALWAYS be changed, you can never change bonus. only add to it. in all honesty i didn't expect it to be accepted, and i more expected to be laughed at by jeff for offering all that bonus.Originally posted by Suicane View PostJeff and I had a long talk last night.
