Bryce Tan?Originally posted by jeff View PostToo premature at this point as there hasn't been a single legit candidate who has retired up to this point.
Wesley Flemming?
I know there are others that were on other teams that should be in there as well. I hate to see some notable early players not make it into the HoF just because we didn't see their whole career.

Seriously. C-Dog was a monster!!! One of the greatest players of his time. Shit, what perfect timing is this. Bo Jackson was one of the greatest players of his time but how many years did he play? He was on the front page of NFL.com today btw. Sometimes how long you play has nothing to do with how great you were during your time.Originally posted by Suicane View PostPersonaly, and I'm being serious here for one of the few times in my life, I think you have to throw longevity out the window for original guys. Guys who made impacts and were stars of the first few seasons deserve a caveat.

Your a football fan so I am sure you are just trying to get a response here. Bo was one of the greatest of all time, in his time. Hell even ESPN still realizes how good Bo was.Originally posted by George W Bush View PostYes, Bo Jackson's career highs of 950 rush yards and 5 TDs belong in the hall of fame.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/etick...t&lid=tab1pos1His myth fully crystallized on a Monday night, on the last day of November 1987, when Bo was a rookie running back for the Los Angeles Raiders, a two-sport athlete sharing time in the backfield with a Hall of Famer named Marcus Allen. Bo took a handoff and Bo parted the entire Seattle defense and then Bo -- How does one even describe this method of propulsion? Glided? Propelled? Teleported? -- 91 yards down the sideline, and then Bo kept on running until he disappeared into a tunnel in the bowels of Seattle's Kingdome. The sound of Bo running past him, former Seahawks receiver Steve Largent said, was like nothing he had ever heard before.
For a moment, Bo was gone, out of the picture entirely, prompting ABC analyst Dan Dierdorf to proclaim to a TV audience that Bo "might not stop until Tacoma." When Bo emerged from that tunnel, and when he lowered his shoulder and toppled a cocky young linebacker named Brian Bosworth on a short touchdown run later that evening, and finished the night with 221 yards, nothing was ever the same. Bo was on his way to becoming an icon, both physically and commercially, a man who could do anything he wanted on any field of play, a man who made a fortune for embodying that Nike catchphrase concocted by a copywriter in Portland, Ore.: Bo Knows.
With those two words, Bo Jackson helped usher sports into the modern age.

IMO the longevity of guys who started in our league is different than the longevity of guys who got injured in the real world. No I wouldn't put Bo in the hall of fame, but I think that guys who started in our first year and were already in their 30's but maximized the few years they had here with greatness deserve special treatment.I luv British womenz.

Both Tan and Flemming were the tops at their position when they retired.Originally posted by Suicane View PostI can see Tan making it in.
My whole point is this, we need to have some players that those that come later are measured against. Just because a player at the start of the league missed out on 5 years, 10 years, etc. of their career they should not automatically be excluded from any Hall of Fame.
Using Tan and Flemming as examples, let's review their careers:
Flemming missed being named to the All-Pro team twice, once in 2004 and once in 2007. In 2007, he only played in 8 games and was on pace to have his best year ever. He retired as the leader in KRBs and has the highest KRB% out of any player at his position that has started over 100 games. He also anchored one of the dominant running attacks in league history.
Tan was one of the leaders of the Grizzly defense during the first years of the league. When he retired, he was tied for the most sacks all-time by a DT. He also racked up high tackle totals for a player at his position and has the third most tackles in Grizzly history.
Now, maybe we decide they shouldn't make it, but it would be a shame to lose guys like this, Gerald Sanders, and some of the other early greats to history.
