  • IFL Hall Of Fame

While writing my article for my team today, it occurred to me we need an IFL Hall Of Fame. We could go back to some of the great retired players and some of the players who are going to retire soon, it would be nice to honor them by adding a HOF.
We could use owner voting, much like the end of year awards to vote on who should be inducted. We put a limit on the number of members we put in each year, like mabe start with 5 players a year. We nominate players, and then have a final vote on the 5 who get in. I mean, I don't know how the details would work, but I really think this would really add another dimension to this league. We really get attached to our players being we only play once a week. We also get to know other teams players because the of the long time between games. Hell, I feel like I know players who arn't even on my team because they are so great and week in and week out they are dominating games.

    Anyway, what ya think?

Good idea, I always like Hall of Fames that are not dictated by the sim. But the IFL needs more seasons completed before it would be a practical idea. IMO, of course.

you hit the nail on the head.

We're just getting into the retirements of key players in our history. I don't think a benchmark has been set yet.

which BTW, is why I added a 'wall of honor' in my sig. These are guys whom i thought were good, but will never be in the hall or close to it, when all the dusts settle

While I agree, our league's pace really means it may be another year or even 2 real time before we have an "ideal" base of players to choose from. Lets start with 1 this season, and add one more for next season. I can think of a certain defensive back who would get my vote for this years HOF.

One more reason waiting may not be a great idea is as time goes on, the base of owners who have been in this league long enough to remember the players who really deserve to be in the HOF is getting slimmer and slimmer. Every time we replace an owner, he has no idea who the great players of the past are. There is no fan base, we are the fans, so we are the only voters on this.

my only thought is that HOF players are the best of the best, not always our favorite players. This judgement gets clouded at times, especially when we talk about our own players. There is definately a nostalgia

That is where the HOF Committee comes in to present the league with a final ballot to vote on each season.

this is something that's been discussed by all of us.
i'm in for a HOF, we just need to keep things in perspective. I'm thinking were 3-4 years away from even talking about it let alone putting together a ballot.

There will definitely be a HOF at some point. Too premature at this point as there hasn't been a single legit candidate who has retired up to this point. There will likely be a 2-3 year "waiting" period after a guy retires as well, so be patient.

Personaly, and I'm being serious here for one of the few times in my life, I think you have to throw longevity out the window for original guys. Guys who made impacts and were stars of the first few seasons deserve a caveat.
