TRIVIA BYTES WEEKEND PREVIEW
THE TOP TEN ....
#4 St. Louis visits #7 Portland for the only game between teams in the Top Ten. The Cardinals will face the Seals that features the ongoing rivalry between our two commishes with victor taking claim of the prized "Flying Purple Puna Ball." This year, the Cardinals have high hopes to finally capture the FPPB for the first time ever. They trail in the fabled series since the Seals have won all three other meetings. The game features Jeff, a gameplanner's gameplanner and Mr. Pinoccio (aka Suicane) who swears that he doesn't have a clue when it comes to setting the numbers in a gameplan. It has been said that Suicane's nose
grows longer than his dick, so don't be tricked into thinking that there won't be a trick or two coming from the Cardinals.
For the Cardinals, McMurray has a 93.3 rating, has thrown 12 TD and has only given up 4 Ints. WR Olin Holst is still unable to play but Zachary Hall and Philip Brauer are very capable targets. McMurray may also try to throw underneath to TE Conrad Beyer who Gridiron Greta crowned as the 9th best receiving TE in the league. RB Tim Austin is not flashy or a game breaker but he will keep the Seal's honest as they set their sights on McMurray who is behind a very young and yet to be tested O-line.
The Seals' QB needs no introduction. The MVP from last season, Jay Caro, has not produced his outrageous TD numbers from last year but sports a very respectable 93.3 rating. This year Caro is spreading the wealth as he tosses to WR Dominic Field, WR Blake Ameche, TE Alan Bryant, FB Terrance Greely and RB Kerry Glenn.
Portland puts up the #1 points per game ... St. Louis has the #2 points per game. St. Louis has the best turnover ratio in the league and they will be counting to increase those numbers against a team that claims the #1 passing offense, #1 yards per catch and attempt, and #1 total yards per game.
We think this game will come down to turnovers and special team play --- opportunistic St. Louis leads the league in turnover ratio ... that is good thing. Also, Cardinal KR Marshall Talley is dangerous kick off retun artist who has already taken it to the house one time this year. That is also a good thing. However, S. Louis rookie K Bubba Echert is at the botttom of the pile in FG efficiency - a miserable 50% and that is a bad thing, a very bad thing for teams matched this close in talent. This being said, Portland should be able to seal the deal by playing error free.
OUTSIDE THE TOP TEN and looking to get in ...
#13 Vancouver continues their impressive march to the top ten vs division rival #14 Oakland. A very important matchup in the NC West.
#15 Murfreesboro and #16 Louisiana hook up in another divisional rivalry as both try to keep pace with St. Louis and Houston.
FEATURE GAME OF THE WEEK
One match-up to watch is 2-4 Wichita vs 4-2 Cleveland. Wichita's four losses came from opponents that have a combined record of 22-4. Then again Clevelands only losses have been to Norfolk and St. Louis. We think there are two high caliber teams in this game and this should be a very good game to watch.
