Louisiana comes to visit.
This is Matt Sanfords Debut. He will take all the snaps. And may take all the snaps if he performs.

Excited how my team develops this season.

I'm looking to see what Stephen Scott looks like. He should get the majority of snaps. Also rookie Carlos " I'm a" Newby at CB.

Changed the thread title. Would probably make more sense to combine any discussion in one thread as there will be very little discussion I'm thinking.

Well I have to say that I am encouraged by the running game so far. Hopefully, we don't lose too much there. Hickman looked good as did Strong. 1st preseason game so not much to read into, but I want to make sure we don't miss a beat on offense.

Surprised that we played as well as we did in the secondary.

Wow. We lose, but Sanford is a star. 26-37 for 248 yards and 1 TD. He was sacked 3 times and fumbled once. that is not a good sign, but hopefully, an anomaly.
Position battle heating up: Weakside Cornerback.
Who will start opposite Landon Sobel in the defensive backfield? Callahan had 6 balls thrown at him and defensed none. Mulder had 2 thrown his way and defended one.

Sanford also rushed twice fir 41 yards. His long was 38 yards. Steve Young?

i don't believe you're just gonna let a player like Devin Taylor just ride the bench. why didn't you trade him if you were this high on Sanford? top 10 QBs don't ride the bench. they get traded for players the team can actually use. weird.

I was going to sit Sanford for a season and let Taylor mentor him.
Then I start reading that sitting a QB for a season does nothing but delay his development.
I was planning on starting Taylor this season then trading him in the offseason.
Now he will mentor Sanford and then be traded.
And to be honest, in this league there are about 3 teams that need a QB and I dont think any of them want an 11 year vet. I dont know if they are that close to winning it all, that Taylor would help them.

you could have moved him for a cheaper QB mentor. Taylor has more value this season than he does next season, when he'd be one year older. some guys are too good to just bench, or too expensive. Taylor is both. you're more brave than i am, though, i wouldn't have the guts to do this.

fwiw, i picked up a QB mentor in FA1 to help develop Ike Jordan, and i'm paying him less than $1million. for a guy who's gonna be my #3 QB it made more sense to make my #3 QB a mentor.

Yeah I bet you did. Again, I was going to start Taylor.

That is the quandry I face. What do I believe? Will sitting him one season hurt or help him. I would love to start Taylor, but not at the expense of the future.

Will I win more with Taylor or Sanford? I only won 7 with Taylor last season.

Uhhhh, for some reason I'm not able to connect to the site via FTP. This is odd.

The Bulldogs are anxiously awaiting their preseason debut tonight in the lovely state of Louisiana. This game is going to be a measuring stick for the younger guys. Key vets will not be active for this evening's game, say's HC Gunn. "It's important to see what we've got with our younger guys. We already know what Kao, Crespo, Villa, Marasco, etc, can do. I'm interested in seeing what our rookies and sophomores can do. Realistically, our 2nd year guys didn't see a whole lot of action last season. This year we'll see what they're capable of. It's a new system here. I run things a little differently. A lot of my successes with the Power focused on defense. I'm looking to try and implement some of the same things that were successful in Pittsburgh here in Newark. Obviously, a different cast of character's, but we feel like we can work with some of the talents here. I'm very interested to see what my young LB's can do. I expect a lot from Russel Hennessey and Mack Edwards. Nolan Lawson was a high pick, and he needs to play up to that potential. He'll likely be called upon to start next year, and the experience he gets now will help him prepare for that. I'm also excited to see how SS Craig Hampton performs. On offense, I'm looking forward to see how Jamie Williams performs, a year after his serious injury. The other guy that really impresses me is Adam Granger. This guy went undrafted after putting up impressive numbers at Stanford. I'm impressed with his breakaway speed. The score is not that important tonight, but I still stress that winning is important and I would love it if we can pull one out."

yup, no valuable starters will be playing in today's game. Joey Otey will be in some dime packages, but that's only because we had one of our backup DE's get tonsilitis right before this preseason game so we had to activate Otey.

next preseason game i'll get the 1st team some playing time. i don't care if i go 0-4 in the preseason, a successful preseason for me is no major injuries and maybe a surprise performance from one of the young guys i'm looking to add to my depth.
