also - Orlando only has 30 players under contract. i know Pirates Gm said he's in Vegas, but don't you think it's bad form to leave your team with only 30 guys and not even make an attempt to pick up some players. he was around for the first 8 stages of FA.

jeff/suicane: maybe you guys should think about implementing a rule where a team can't come out of the 1st FA stage without at least 40 players under contract.

i have 44 players, which means i need to sign 9 more guys. i'm sure the same goes for the rest of the league. for suicane and Pirates to think they're gonna be able to get whomever they want to fill out their teams in FA2 is silly and insane. how exactly is Orlando going to field a competitive team having essentially 23 roster filler players? that's having to fill almost half his team with scrub guys. i really think some tinkering in the Constitution is needed.

What you're saying isn't ridiculous. I definitely watch player numbers on each team. I don't think a "black and white" rule is the answer though. Teams could just sign scrubs to no-bonus deals, then cut them. What would your answer to that be?

There is language in the constitution that says a team needs to "improve their team's roster if necessary". Obviously, that's pretty gray, but over time it's pretty easy to tell what a guy is up to.

cool - i'm not trying to be a pain. i'm certain you were aware, i was more trying to bring it to the attention of the league.


but yeah, i think even your point that a team could sign a bunch of scubs and cut them is better than the alternative. i suggested a minimum 40 player squad coming out of FA1, but even that's really pushing it. to be under the gun to have 8 stages (i think that's what FA2 is) to sign 13 guys while you have half the league also trying to pick up the same semi-decent roster filler you are means you could risk going into training camp with less than 53 guys.

not that i care, it's one less team i need to worry about, but in terms of realism it just doesn't jive well to see that. Orlando should be questioned - did they even submit any exports for the 1st 8 stages of FA1? at the very least if i was the Pirates i would have bid on as many 2nd and 3rd tier free agents as possible to try to snag at least 10 more players. or even have given my team to a vulture/commish to give minimum contracts to as many FAs as possible. best of luck to them, they got their work cut out for them.

The game already has minimum roster requirements at a set time. Setting up additional IFL requirements would require a penalty system to keep track of and wouldn't really solve anything IMO.

I'm not looking back at any logs but maybe the teams with low roster counts lost out on a great many FA offers and at this point are hoping for the draft and draft related cuts to help them out and then fill from there.

Not speaking of the Cards of Pirates as I haven't looked but keep in mind some teams have upwards of 8-10 draft picks.

Kurt (of Orlando) has been around and has sent in exports. He made bids for two players (Hinsley and Shoop) and lost out on both of them.

I'm more aware of Suicane's situation. He has about 8 million in cap money available at this point and he was planning on giving a large chunk of that to Ash. Now he's stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I haven't signed Sims yet, because he hasn't liked my offers. I have until the end of FA2 to sign him. I will do that, but I need to clear up some space. It can be easily done, but I'm trying to work my way through it.

i wasn't calling for a penalty, really. more about giving the Commish's the authority to go in and sign players for you if you have less than x amount of players on your roster, so that by the time you've made 7 picks in the draft you only need to sign, say, 10 guys in FA2. something like that. to me that essentially is a penalty, cuz i certainly don't want anyone signing guys for me.

will the game automatically pick up players for you if you don't have enough to make even the bare minimum requirement? maybe it's just me getting worried for nothing, i just never saw a situation where a team had so few guys on the roster.

Yeah, the computer would sign guys when the team was set to play their first preseason game. Hell, when I played single-player the computer teams were in this situation all the time.

oh, if that's the case then i guess i need not worry. still, it just seems like it's bad form and makes it look like you don't care about your team. i wish Orlando was in the AC West.
