TRIVIA BYTES SUPER SEVEN - Week 8

TB Sports Staff leaving tomorrow morning for a vacation ... apologies for the abbreviated preview ... but something is better than nothing.

    FILLING IN THE BLANKS

    #7 - Newark (4-3) at Columbia (2-4)

    #6 - Oakland (5-2) at Vancouver (2-5)

Games important to the favorites, but are lackluster otherwise.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
STILL ALIVE & KICKING, BUT FOR HOW LONG

 #5 - California (3-3) at Anchorage (4-2) . California, three in a row and stoking the fire ... Anchorage, on the other hand, seems to be losing steam on the field, most significantly due to injuries.

 #4 - Iowa City (3-3) at Portland (6-0) . Iowa City rode the wave vs. Anchorage last week ... but is there a potential wipeout vs. Portland this week?

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
THE TALES OF TWO CITIES (Two great matchups)

 #3 - Tulsa (5-2) at Lawrence (5-2) . We wish we had more time to write about this game and the two that follow. All teams are very good teams and most llikely will see themselves in the playoff picture. In this game, both teams lead their divisions and both can ill afford to lose ground in their respective divisions. Ever hear the saying " this is where the rubber meets the road" ? Well watch this game and you will know what it means.

 #2- Hartford (6-1) at Houston (7-0) .This game has all the credentials to be the headliner of the week, but yes there is a game a tad better. But this game provides a lot of star power. Houston, coming off an impressive win over Norfolk and ending the Vipers winning streak has branded the Renegades as the team to watch. Hartford, has other ideas and is anxious to earn a much deserved respect. Don't be fooled, they have the fire power to trip up any team, including the viper slayers.

    -------------------------------------------------------
    THE GAME OF THE WEEK

:!: #1 - Madison (4-2) at Pittsburgh (5-1) . A divisional matchup of humongous proportions. This NC NORTH has a three headed monster - Lansing and these two teams. So, every game in this division is vitally important and head-to-head games double up the bet.

Pittsburgh excels on the defensive side of the ball and and has struggled offensively. Madison has been the exact opposite as they sport a potent offense but posess a very suspect defense. It is hard to predict which of these units will prevail. There are all kind of permutations including Pitt's O potentially looking like world beaters against the porous Madison defense or Madison's offense becoming the straw that eventually breaks the Pitt defense. You have to watch to find out.
... devoted to the study of meaningless information ...
... and obviously with too much time on one\'s hands ...

I am positive, POSITIVE I TELL YOU, that Hartford and Houston will be the game of the week. This game already has huge playoff implications.

        1) If Hartford wins, they maintain their conference record advantage over Norfolk. In addition, it is a common game victory if Norfolk and Hartford work down to that tiebreaker. Obviously, the pendulum swings in the opposite direction if Houston wins.

        2) Houston and Hartford both figure to be in the playoff picture at the end of the year. If Murphreesboro is able to win the division, the winner of this game will be the #5 seed, and the loser could very well be the #6 seed in the conference.

        3) If this does not determine WC seedings, it could very well determine divisional winner seedings.

        4) This game is more important to Hartford than it is to Houston. If Houston loses, and Hartford beats Murphreesboro next week, they really don't lose anything in the divisional race. However, with Hartford and Norfolk neck and neck, each game has an added significance. Even more so since Norfolk has already played the toughest teams on their schedule, whereas Hartford is just hitting that stretch. The next two weeks, could very well set the tone for the AC East race down the stretch.

          Re: Week 8 Discussion

I hope the following is seen as helping out and not stepping on toes. Since TB had to leave quickly and I've recently studied both teams in order to play them I'll try to "fill in his blank" for him...

TRIVIA BYTES SUPER SEVEN - Week 8

          #7 - Newark (4-3) at Columbia (2-4)

After a very short identity crisis it appears Alan Crespo has all of his confidence back and Newark is leading the league with 186 yards of rushing offense per game. Columbia is not having a year on par with the standards that the organization has set in the past however the season is still very young and a 2-game win streak would put them right back at .500 for the season. Newark appears to statistically have the edge but Columbia's at home and needs this game more.

this is a big game for us. We need to beat the Fire to stay on par with the Phantoms. [ifl]Alan Crespo[/ifl] will not play in this game due to injuries he suffered last week.
Columbia is a scary looking team. They seem to have a lot of good players, and they're developing some nice talent there too. I'm hoping that we can get some pressure on the QB.

            Looking forward to it.

glad to see California getting mentioned as a game to watch on a consistent basis. the team has really turned it around and instead of being considered one of the weaker teams in the league we've made the jump to "middle of the pack". hopefully next season we make another jump to "playoff contenders" and soon after that - "championship calibre".
