  • J.J. Johnson watch...

    I have a little interest in this...

    Just what will Cleveland get for their $3+M this year.

    J.J. Johnson Against Newark (Pre-season 5) had;
    On 36 Run plays he had 0 Tackles and 6 Assists.
    On 22 Pass plays he had 0.5 sacks.

    Menefee, Johnson's replacement in Dakota against Albequerque had;
    On 13 Run plays he had 2 Tackles
    On 23 Pass plays he had 0.5 sacks and 1 hurry.

    Menefee makes $870,000

    Stay tuned for more updates.

      it's still a great pickup. Johnson this year isn't going to be worth anything, and is probably best suited to being a backup. but whoever bid on him wasn't concerned with this year - you were bidding on the right to have exclusive negotiations with him after this season. to pay $3million to have first crack at resigning him in the offseason is worth it, cuz 3 or so years from now he'll be worth whatever he's getting paid when he's more developed. he obviously wasn't worth signing a rookie contract to, but i still wouldn't have released him for nothing.

        Not sure he meant to release him for nothing ...

          ...unfortunately there is no way to do anything but, "release him for nothing", thus the unfair balance of "rights" to a draft pick" but...that's the way the cookie crumbles.

          My guess is that Johnson WILL improve and won't even ask for a huge contract from Cleveland for the next 3-4 years. I think Cleveland was very smart with their pickup and the way they will re-negotiate with Johnson--just saying that teams drafting the rights to a guy should have the same option--,

          I'm just hoping that Johnson develops a case of irritable bowel syndrome. or has a career Trev Alberts worthy.

            You could've forced him to re-enter the draft next year.

              If this had happened next season you wouldn't even have known he was a bust until after you signed him to that huge contract. So be thankful for what you get, I guess.
