    (Homer Alert!)

I would nominate Darron Dunlap for Special Teams Player of the Year. He was a phenom. Not only did have the longest FG of the year, and the most successful field goal attempts, these highlights are just his 50+ yarders:

57 and 53 yarders against Montreal (3 total - our only points in that game)
    55, 51, and 53 yarders against Columbia
51 against Little Rock (3 in all that day - others were 42 and 45 no misses)
55 yarder against Oakland (3 in all)
    53 against Salt Lake (4 of 4 - average distance: 43.7)

Also, when Orlando Poore was injured, he took over and averaged 44 yards a punt with 2 behind the 20 - we had to sign another punter because the game made us, but we had Dunlap punt anyway. And he punted like one of the best.

I haven't checked other kicker's performances (I'm not that much of a no-lifer) but that seems fairly significant.

      (Homer Alert II)

Wesley Connell WAS the Vancouver offense. No ifs, ands, or buts. A green front line, a shakey passing game (but one we were forced to use more often than we'd have liked), and he shreads most defenses. Shreads them. 2,000 yards are impressive and probably trump this, but if we led the league in rushing attempts and were last in passing attempts, Connell would have the reps to do it, too.

I guess I'm saying that Crespo looks to be an obvious favorite, but Connell deserves a look.

Probably the widest open category? Lots of LB's with numbers that look the same. Not any super standout sack artist this year. No one pulling away with the INTs.

Could be a good year for a Safety to win it, has a few INT's, some decent Defn numbers, high tackles. An all around guy may take it this year.
Went back and reread it. . .even the bold stuff. And I ran into the above statement. That is James Hovis, SS, IWC. [/b]

He is a good candidate, but there isn't a player out there with better stats than Lansing's Isaac Edwards.

So the question is, do you take the great player on the great team....or the great player on a questionable team

I had actually overlooked the catches against with Edwards. Hovis posted a nice 22 passes defensed and only had 25 passes caught against him. That's rather impressive

                            Frank Smith For BOPoY

Dennis Gallup was traded to Oakland for CAP reasons, but that was not the only reason. Gallup was dealt so that the Mules could give Frank Smith playing time at MLB. Smiths numbers in 2007 are almost identical to Gallups numbers in 2006, but Smith had to share inside duties in 2007 as the Mules switched to a 34D when John Ash was traded in another CAP move. Then Zoomie Monroe went out for the year in week 6 and the Mules defensive front leader was gone for the year, yet Frank Smith continued to shed blockers and make tackles for the Mules.

Frank Smith is an original Mules, drafted in the 35th round in 2003.

WR Joe Bailey had almost 98 more punt return yards than anyone else in the league (411-313) and had the highest average by 3.5 yards (17.1-13.6), to go along with 2 touchdowns. Joe Bailey is also the all-time leader in punt return average among players with more than 25 career punt returns.

Remember I also benched the guy for the final couple of games. He was relegated to nickel corner. He just kept getting smoked as a rook. You can prop my LB Gannon though. I dig that 4th rounder. He has worked out real well in season 1.
