  • Defensive Player of the Year

We will begin voting for the first of four Owners' Awards that will be given out the next few weeks. Remember, these differ from the great awards that roadrash has taken the task of overseeing. They will all be voted on publically in a thread like this one EXCEPT Owner of the Year, which will be voted on through private messaging. More on that award when we get to it. Here is the voting schedule:

Monday, Oct. 25 thru Monday, Nov. 1 (noon central time) -- Defensive Player of the Year
Nov. 1 - Nov. 8 -- Offensive Player of the Year
Nov. 8 - Nov. 15 -- Most Valuable Player AND Owner of the Year

Rules are as follows (post any questions here):

-Everyone gets one vote and one vote only
-Your vote must be made public and in the proper thread
-You CANNOT vote for your own players, ie your vote must be a guy on another team
-In the case of a tie we will create a poll with the locked-up nominees and vote for another 2 days
-Feel free to add any comments to your vote

Now go ahead and vote for DPOY!
    "Larry Deasoooooooooooooooooon" -- Phil Jenkins

    I'll get this thing started.

I nominate Charles Yon of the St. Louis Cardinals. He had 7 picks, 5 returned for TD's for 253 yards. The next guy behind him only had 2 returned for TD's.

-most of those came against me <_<

-you can thank me later Suicane

This was definitely not an easy one for me, but so as to not drive myself nuts I'm making my pick right now. Basically it came down to one guy playing more consistent than another.

My vote is Adam Land, Portland.

-anchors a line that was the 2nd-best at stopping the run
-led the league in sacks with 17
-his 63 tackles and 29 assists are both very good numbers for a defensive end
-had 5 multi-sack games, peaking with 3.5 against Albuquerque in Week 12

After considering several players, I have to go with my original gut fealing. His sacks are by far the highest in the league, and was a key part of a damn good defense.

            Adam Land, DE, Portland.

Thanks Kobeck. I was hoping someone would nominate a VooDoo player. Not the one I expected but you take what you can get.

Try again. Even you have to admit that Land is the MAN. He didn't shine in one, two, or even 4 games. He dominated every single game.

well, what Jave there said, although you said stmping so I take it that is not really your vote.

and this is not pre-election, this IS the election..

I am going to have to mix it up a bit. Although Land is a close, and I mean very close 2nd, I have to go with LB Beau Brown from Columbia. 113 tackles 9 sacks and 23 hurries. Nice numbers for a LB, but now look at his pass coverage skills. 3 Int's for 141 yards and 1 TD with 5 balls defensed and a 19% PDPct. I also like his pass rush % of 7.2 for a LB.
I think Land rocks with his high tackle total and sacks, but he had a relatively lower pass rush % compared to other lineman who had less sacks. Brown's numbers show he can make the tackle, shed the big lineman and get the sack and drop into coverage and make plays. Beau Brown gets my vote.

While I tried to reason myself into not giving it to C-Dogs closest cometitor, i can't in good faith do it.
My vote goes to Adam Land.
