Where are you looking to get hosted from and how much are they charging and what does it include? I have a cheap host that I use for a number of sites that I have good uptime with, but I don't know the bandwidth that this site uses.

Well, my options are open for hosts. I know the one Jeff and several guys at FOFC use is supposed to be pretty good but I have not looked into it.

I have a local host that I like because a) he is local and b) I can contact him fairly easy if I need to.

I was looking at GoDaddy today because I was at their site renewing the domain name for another year. Their cheaper plan is actually very close to what I have now as far as price and what I get (a little better there), but they look to have a much better support system. The host I have now sucks with support and how fast they will get back to me.

If by some chance I get a certian amount of money, then I would try for a better plan. I see more storage needed then what we have about a year or so down the line maybe.

Bandwidth as never been an issue here yet. We have 10 gb with this host.

Well, I should have 3 months (a little less so I can prepare for a move if one is done) to decide. For some reason I am not sure if I like that idea though, no offense. I can't even really say why, selfish reasons I guess.... :?

One thing about that is I am not sure how much access I would have. All I know about is how my host does things, which I know is not all that normal from what I have heard. But user accounts kind of suck here and I am not sure if I would have access to the things I would need on someone elses site.

Plus, not being the admin of the whole site would just bug me a little for some reason. Like I said, selfish reason.....

I havn't done rehosting yet, but that is what I would be doing. . you would have your own site

Odd, never knew you could do something like that. I suppose if something like that is possible, then that would be doable I guess.

You mentioned you are trying to talk the wife into it though, so not a sure thing right? And then how much of a sure thing you would keep it a year from now? Those would be things I would have no say in there either.

Let me also say, if I haven't yet, that we could end up just staying with this host. Things were rocky for a while but from my point of view have been smoothing out some as we have 'settled' into the new server. Plus, I seem to be getting better responses from them. Of course they may be kissing up to get me to renew.

I can probably donate some, but would only do so under some conditions.

a) The current host is not an option. I've never had such FTP problems with any other host before. Downtime is pretty much a daily thing with them as well. IMO, you've already given them too much of your time and money.

b) Good research has to be done on whatever we go with next. Firsthand experience is always good (from guys like Jave, myself, etc.) Fuck ticket support systems, public message boards are always a plus. What I tell Cringer is that if they've got a message board, then they aren't afraid to hide their support like some of these cheap hosts are. Try to avoid the yearly plans. It usually takes a few months to see how good a host really is, so you want to have an option of getting out.

See, this is an example of a joke-of-a-setup. The least amount of money you are gonna spend here is $60. Setup fees are ridiculous. Getting 50 gigs of bandwidth with every package is also pretty fishy. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved people around depending on how much bandwidth they actually end up using.
