For teams with owners who just miss their pick, I still like skipping over them, atleast for a bit, and letting the next couple guys pick if they are ready. Then after a certian period of time(or number of picks), the committee can select for that team if they have not shown up yet.........

this is the next big "hurdle" in getting things panned out, so we will cme to a final plan in a week or two i think.....not to stop talking about it now though, but to give time for more discussion....
Do it the same way the NFL does. . .

When Minissota's time ran out in the 2003 Draft, the next two teams jumped in and made their picks in the next minute. Then the Vikings got around to getting their pick in

that is pretty much the idea, and how i like it. but I understand that a pick may need to be made for that team if the owner never shows up, or shows up sooo late because of a personal problem that it is hurting that team

Then the missing owner simply gives an advanced list. . 2-3 names to a designated rep

You can have a second "Administrative" Thread available for this purpose.

For instance, If I'm going to be offline for a day or two:

I post, on the Admin thread, Cringer is authorized to announce the second round pick for IWC
I then send you 2-3 names of players that I want in the order I want them
When IWC is up, you simply post my top pick from the list that is still available.

If the owner does not plan ahead, orr just misses the deadline, then the draft continues and
the missing owner drafts submits his pick as soon as possibleand falls into that slot. . although,
I'm not sure how it works when your inputing the draft picks.

If the round ends, or 8 picks go by, then we can assume it's an emergency situation.

Now in an emergency situation, does the owner really care about an internet football league?
Not really, but to be fair, we could have a few unbiased owners (Draft Committee) pick for them
based off the needs table provided in game. For instance, if their 1st Need is a Starting RB, and
there is a Stub RB available. . .

The only other issues that may need to be addressed is if an owner feels that they were slighted
in some way, or just plain done wrong. In this case an owner should be allowed to file a grievance,
(doesn't apply to players, so James Tart doesn't end up whining because he didn't get traded to the
team he wanted) Reasoning for this is the randomness of the time frame. For instance:

At 0600, IWC realizes that there are only 3 picks left, and since the owner leaves for work at 0630
and does not arrive home until 1700, there is a chance that the pick will come and go. As a responsible
owner, IWC sends an e-mail to Cringer with the following picks, DL#4, DL#3, QB#6, QB#4. Only three
picks before IWC, so IWC is gaurenteed to get one of the four. So the following events happen:

St Loius on the Clock @0630L -- Selects DL#3 at 0700
        Cleveland on the clock @0700 -- Selects DL#4 @0715
        Columbia on the clock @0715 -- Selects QB#4 @0805
Iowa City on the clock @0805 -- Time expires at 1605
        Anchorage on the clock at 1605 -- Selects QB#6 @ 1610
Vancouver on the clock at 1610 -- Selects RB#4 @

Little does IWC know, Cringer has just spent the last 24 hours pulling an all nighter in order to update the
team pages with a new color scheme. . . Going to bed at 0600 and waking to a very angry IWC owner at 1800.

When IWC owner returns home at 1700, he should have a chance to ask for a reprieve, he did make an effort,
it might have been better to send it to another owner as well, but he did make a positive effort. Should he be
        punished?

ok, well pretty much most of what you have said is how I would like it. Some guys have said they are not ok with just skipping over guys picks because how long does that go on, and what you suggested, after a certian time period, we pick for that team. I think this is the way I am leaning towards going.

Now, as far as your last question there, it should NOT happen. I will want lists to go to all the appointed "draft committee" guys, that way if one or two are absent, then there is still someone to make the pick for that person. If someone does it in good time before their pick, there should be no reason it can not come to me, and then I can forward it to sovstar, roadrash, and whoever else, whether I am home or not.

Also, we can simply make it a rule that that pick is not officially skipped until someone on the committee posts that it has been skipped......so we could lose a couple hours or something, but this is not going to be perfect afterall.........

Nothing ever is. . but I've learned over the years to just make sure on contingency plans. . .

BTW, your going to be pretty busy with FA and work, If Sovstar handles the FA while
your on the road, I can handle the draft board. Notifying who is on the clock, and updating
            the main post.

I am a reporter in the IHOF and they are doing they're draft right now,They have a Draft utility setup that a gm fills out if he will be un available for his pick and the utility will make the pick for him,If ya'll like I could talk to VPI the commish in that league and see whats what and how it works or Cringer or one of the conf prez's can talk to him.I know it speeds their draft up big time, they are almost done and it only lasted 5-7 days at the most.I don't care how we do it,I'm with the League as a whole, just thought I would put that option up for discussion. My 2 cents anyway.

sovstar brought this up over at the FOFC boards, and VPI gve out the code for it I think, but it is not easy stuff, someone would have to make sense of and put the code to use for us. There is another one of these utilities that a commish of another league has said he will release for use. So if that happens we will definetly look into using it. But we need to plan like that won't happen
