  • What are draft will look like

    Internet Football League current draft.....

This is the Internet Football League draft that is going on now, the same time as the first FA stage is going on, thought a couple of guys who have not seen this, or something like it, could get a good look at what it will be like. They did 6 hrs a pick in the first round, and went down to 4 hrs a pick in the second.

It started on monday night (labor day), and they are finishing up rd two now.

im part of that league and it moves very well. WOrked out the same way in last years draft.

SHould work well if we use the same system. note if you miss your pick you just get skipped and can pick whenver you notice you are up.

I'm not totally sold on the "skipping a pick" deal. What happens if an owner is involved in an emergency situation? I think it makes a lot more sense making the pick for him (or having the CPU pick when this option is available).

but since the draft is not done live, then having the CPU pick for him could screw up the following picks. If we don't skip it can seriously hold things up in some cases.

I understand the "emergency" side, i guess we could consider having a "draft committee" that could pick for the team who would be skipped over. Maybe have guys submit some kind of list before hand that says what positions they would like the committee to target in each round if they miss a pick or something.

Or do something as simple as looking at a team's needs list and selecting a player whose position falls within those needs and has the highest adjusted bureau rating.

my only problem with something like that, is what if the guy is going after FA's for one of his needs? Or if it is the 3rd rd and a guy with multiple picks before he misses one, has already taken players at those need positions....

If guys are ok with doing it that way then I will let it happen that way, I just am not too high on it. Usually a guy who misses his pick (in the Internet League draft anyways) has made his pick within a few picks, and if there is an emergency of some kind that makes me miss my pick, then that pick is not too high of a priority to me anyways. But if I missed it because I was not keeping up and just forgot, well then I get penalized for it.....

this is definetly something more owners need to get involved in discussing........

I think that just to be safe, guys should submit a list of 30-40 picks in order to Cringer or someone in control, were only talking about 32 picks per round so it's not like you need to make a list of 100's of guys. If you don't submit a list and you miss your pick, well then it sucks, but we have to move at an orderly pace.

Well, lists should be submitted if someone thinks they will miss their pick, but you should not have to make one that big. If you are checking in every day, you will see that your pick is 3, 5, 7 picks away, and then you can submit a list if you think you might miss your pick...............

Yeah, I was just thinking worst case scenario, such as an emergency that leaves you unavailable for a few days. Even that can be overcome with a little pre planning.

So here's a little scenario. An owner goes AWOL and misses both his 1st and 2nd round picks. Now what do you do with those picks?

I'm assuming that Joe (commish of the Internet Football League) usually trades picks around to fix the draft order after someone misses a pick, but what do you do here?

i understand that, but at some point we have to draw the line and admit that we are just not going to be able to cover every possibility. It would be nice, and we can reduce things as much as we can, I have no problem if guys submit large lists to me, if Jeff would rather not go through big ass lists if it is needed, then I have no problem cutting them down when a guys pick is getting closer. Like if a pick is 4-5 spots away, i can just send the top 5-6 guys left on someones list to Jeff at that point if I m gone, and that way Jeff has a nice easy list to look at if someone doesn't make a pick. But I think a big list can be something you should send in if you want to, otherwise, sending in a list of 5-6 guys when you see you pick coming up will work well.

I know I seem a little hard in my stance on doing it this way, but I fell it works well. I made 3 picks last week while on the road, checked the updated draft list when i woke up at night, and then agian later that night (because I have the time, it was usually never different then it was at 10-11) and i would send a list in of 3-4 players.....I was not having to check all the time, and never missed a pick.

Also: what are we going to do IF we don't have 32 owners? Chances are pretty high that we won't have a full league as there is the possibility of a fair amount of turnover during the playoffs/start of the offseason.

Thats a good one, as i'm sure you know.....

I have already agreed that we could form a "draft committee," the 2 conference Presidents and some of the more active board guys like VitoStallion and Suicane, not sure if we want it any bigger then that. Set up some rule about atleast 2 of you guys getting together to talk over the pick before one is put in for that team (obvioulsy there will be times when not all of you will be one and able to get a hold of each other).

Then how would you feel to a compromise between the two possible ways to prevent something like you asked. We could put some limit on how long a pick is skipped, say the pick gets skipped, if 2, or 4 more picks have been made, then the "draft committee" can then go ahead and make the pick for that team. If that owner gets to his computer before then and see's he has ben skipped, he can still pick for his team......

                          just tossing out ideas.....

Cringer, I think you and I are in agreement, I'm saying that even with the worst possible scenario, short of a tragedy in someones life, that people, via big or small list, should be able to make their picks in a concise time. As far as a draft comitee, I think it would be pretty easy for a group of 2,3 or 4 to get together and make a pick for a computer or owner absent team, if thats what we decide on going in than nobody would have any right to complain. I think we'll be fine.

Ya, the more I think about it the more I think we need a draft committee. Computer run teams can be left completely in their hands.

For teams with owners who just miss their pick, I still like skipping over them, atleast for a bit, and letting the next couple guys pick if they are ready. Then after a certian period of time(or number of picks), the committee can select for that team if they have not shown up yet.........

this is the next big "hurdle" in getting things panned out, so we will cme to a final plan in a week or two i think.....not to stop talking about it now though, but to give time for more discussion....
