I suffered through the first few years and when all those potential superstars started performing near the end of year 3, all their contracts came up. I couldnt' afford to keep even half them, the team split, and I didn't recover until about year 7.

My first 6 seasons were all losing seasons.
ROFL, actually, I have played the single player game the same way, and at times, had the same fate. I found out the way to avoid that is....you can predict the general outcome of a season if you are loaded with rookie talent that is about to mature if you sign them to long term contracts ONE year before they come of age. You are able to sign them for dirt cheap because 1. there stats are average, and 2. The teams record sucks. During this season, you sign as many as you can to 4-5 year contracts, and the following year, they dominate. They are now locked into 5 year contracts, and are winning 10+ games a year, playing for roughly one mill a year. I have had good luck with this tatic in the past, the only catch is....if Cringer folds the league, which, he will not because I am familier with him, and I trust him.
My kicking your ass next week is good for the league, see ya Sunday.....UNLESS.....Ivan is creaping my direction(I live in Gulfport, MS), I will have my game plan in by tommorow night just in case.

I tried a similar tactic, but I had a couple problems with holdouts and injuries as well. . .

As for our impending matchup. . I dont' think Cringer has a choice with all the trash flying to not make us Game of the Week. . ..It could be called "Battle of the Crickets".

And before you get your hopes too high, remember that we are playing in Iowa. My guess: IWC 27; OAK 17

      2010 American Conference Champions

It occured to me that some people may consider this a "cheat". let me say this:
If one is willing to take loss after loss after loss waiting for their players to mature, then they should reap the benefits. Roadrash is correct, the game will jack the salarys up to reflect the players "maturing" thus making it impossible for the original owner to keep the players. This is unjust in my eyes, therefore, if I choose to use "foresight" and sign my players right before they demand huge salaries, that is completelly just and after enduring 2-3 horrible seasons, that owner is "due" the benefits from waiting for the rookies to mature.
        Just my thoughts anyway.

, remember that we are playing in Iowa. My guess: IWC 27; OAK 17
Actual score: Oakland 17 IWC 14

Holdouts are realistic when you sign a future superstar before he starts shining. . .

You think you can hold me to 14 points? You gotta be kidding. .

By the end of the game, you will be 31st in Run-D, and I'll have moved up to 30th. . .

I am bringing this old post up to counter the following statement by Jave:

Now those of us that were here, know that Jeff only started on Jave after JaveGate, which happened after the 2003 season, just before the 2004 Draft.

This thread began the famous "Trash Bowl" between Oakland and Iowa City. THe date? Week 10, 2003.

If anything Jeff is my pet Monkey. . .

BTW Jave, who won the trash bowl?

JaveGate, was originally coined by me. Your Welcome.

Bitch, I talk smack with Jave because it's as easy as taking candy from a baby.

PS - I doubt it started with JaveGate.

Jeff can talk all the smack he wants. He is still stuck with the Fresno roster, and I will be in the playoffs this year. Jeffs big accomplishment these days is trading for a shitty QB( http://www.imperialfl.us/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2267 ) and calling it a success.

Jave, do you hear that? It's the nurse and she says it's time for your meds.
