Has anyone noticed reduction of performance when a player is playing out of position e.g. LG/LT playing RG/RT, or FS playing SS, or ILB playing OLB, or strong/left vs. weak/right side etc.?

Re: Positions?

Re: Positions?
If you want to know how effective a LG would be at LT (or whatever) pretend to switch his position. That's what you can expect. No reason it'd be any other way; Jim wouldn't allow such a loophole. That's my opinion though. Wouldn't be surprised to see someone disagree with me.Originally posted by ArgotHas anyone noticed reduction of performance when a player is playing out of position e.g. LG/LT playing RG/RT, or FS playing SS, or ILB playing OLB, or strong/left vs. weak/right side etc.?"Larry Deasoooooooooooooooooon" -- Phil Jenkins

And I've mentioned it a gazillion times already in various places, but do not go by what the ratings look like after the switch. You have to base your decision on the info that is displayed on the dialog box that pops up. This deters cheating, aka loading a reloading without the switch.

I questioned it because my former owner was playing a LG at RG even though he never "changed his position". Our O-line was injured last year and I assume it was a "well, we have to do something" kind of move. Just wondered if it really mattered. I have Neace, and noticed he really is a WILB (yeah I know THAT's a dumb move). To fit into our scheme, will I need for him to take the experience hit to move him to WLB or just plug him in that spot. Or would the move itself give him the experience hit.MIAMI VICE - 2074

All playing the guy out of position does is build him experience at that position so that if you do switch him, the hit isn't bad. As Sov stated before, the only way to know if the guy isn't a scrub at the position is to try to switch him into it and see what the comment says.

Are you sure about that? I don't think the game is sophisticated enough to store how many plays a player plays at each position.Originally posted by hawksterAll playing the guy out of position does is build him experience at that position so that if you do switch him, the hit isn't bad.Los Angeles Matadors AC West Champs: 2037

You can play a guy out of position just don't try to move them IF that switch says he'll drop under 90%
Hertzog will play SILB (vs. MLB) in my system. I'll make the switch BEFORE training camp. In the RNFL I drafted Sean Taylor at safety (7th overall) and switched him to corner before the draft, He's now my top corner (with McCallister on the other side)[Vito]Stallion

So if you plan on playing a MLB at OLB, it's probably better at just switching his position instead of playing him out of position, right?

In another league I have played a top rated RT at LT and have been very successful. I never officially "changed" his position but rather just put him at LT on the depth chart. His abilities might have been reduced a little playing out of position but not serious enough to worry about. That's my experience.Originally posted by Houston_GMSo if you plan on playing a MLB at OLB, it's probably better at just switching his position instead of playing him out of position, right?

That's what I figured for tackles, guards, DTs, DE's etc. I don't think it's that bad a hit when they play the opposite side of their position. I'd probably want to fully change positions if I went from DT to DE, G to T, SS to CB, MLB to OLB, etc though.Originally posted by RaginIn another league I have played a top rated RT at LT and have been very successful. If you just want to play him there, play him there and don't change him. If you are looking to develop a guy or get the player to realize his full potential at a postion (like my MLB coming out the draft moving to ILB immediately) do it before his career startsOriginally posted by Houston_GMSo if you plan on playing a MLB at OLB, it's probably better at just switching his position instead of playing him out of position, right?
