The inspiration is the famous "Wing Polish Lancers."

Thought you might be defensive minded with the Pikestance but now you want to run over everyone with shock cavalry. I thought I had the beginnings of a phalanx but Wilfork went all plebian on me and had to go back to the fields. Like the name!

The name is quite old now. It originated back when I used to engage in political debate. The Pike being man's most ancient weapon and a weapon if you place a knife on the end of a rifle still exist on the battle field. The Pike was/is at its core an offensive weapon. The term stance refers to taking a stand on a position and Pike represents the argument.

An alternative name was Phalanx, but that just sounded cheesy. What better choice than the famous Polish Lancer with a a Pike (the lance is a type of pike).

Looks good, but why is the strap blocking the image?

The strap is part of the template I use. Sometimes it blocks part of the image, but I think that adds to the realism.

Any chance to edit out the realism; I like it pretty for now

It's beyond me. That's why I use a template. Maybe somebody else has one you like more.

It's beautiful. I do not know if it is a "football" logo. It's perfect for a youth team.
