I think a 1st round pick is a greater value than a TE.

LOL and I thought EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE. I didn't want to give up a first rounder for a TE but after chewing on it for a few days I thought a solid, already developed TE was a greater value then a first round pick. Perfect trade for both of us. After Claude Sanderson got injured and dropped 40 points I was wondering how in the hell I was going to find his replacement just 2 years after spending a 1st on him. I think Loften will be a perfect fit in this offense.

Personally, I would rather spend a 1st on a position that I feel is of greater value (CB, WR, DL, etc.) than on a FB or TE. I can pick those up later or in FA. Also, I didn't feel losing Lofton would hurt us too much. Can't get much worse, and I don't think Lofton was making us better.

That was my thinking when I moved McElroy last season. Warthog O sputtered in the RZ without him, but its not like Fresno could compete with the PO caliber teams with him so I moved him for a 1.

FWIW McElroy got a ring in Tulsa and not suprisingly was way more productive there.

I hear what you're saying. But our offense was pretty decent last year, especially passing the ball. He still didn't even surpass the 500 yard mark.

Maybe he does better in Oakland. We'll see.

I can say before he was injured, Claude Sanderson was pretty successful in my offense. He started 13 games his sophomore year, catching 35 passes for 368yds 7 TD's, zero drops. but the following year in week 3 he went down with a torn patellar tendon and that was pretty much the end of his career. He went from a 80+ rating to a 40. I'm hoping to catch lightening in a bottle twice with Lofton although Sanderson's pass catching was a bit better.

I think TE's hold some value now. Perhaps moreso in the new iteration of FOF2007.
jester seems to know how to get value out of his TE...........from the TE class of 2013

If I didnt spend the one on McElroy, that means Randy Brennan isnt the TE that scores on a 26 yard catch. That catch probably doesnt happen and Portland wins 9-7.

Im real happy with the trade.
