Confirmed. This of course takes place once trades are possible and Kinney has had the tag slapped on his butt. Thanks Kozure.

Kinney just may be the missing piece that this defense has sorely needed. But I doubt I'm done adding pieces!

        This is awesome!

I was already a Beasts' fan and to see you add a defensive piece and proclaim future defensive focus is even more exciting!

Next year should be a good one for West Virginia.

I don't get it cring. Why trade one your youngest, BEST defensive players? That's not even rebuilding because he is only in his 6th year. How does that benefit you?

Look at his stats Jave and tell me just how much he was helping my team. Overall I just did not feel like paying him a chunk of money when he just wasn't working for my team the last two seasons. I can spend the money trying to upgrade elsewhere.

Yea, when you put him on the block I was going to make an offer, but....I had the Boyd offer on the table and wanted to see where that went so I didn't even try however...........I did look at his stats and I am a bit curious why he has fallen off the map. I have 2 similar DE's and they are struggling much like he was and I was curious why. I think it's the way we are using them, not necessary that they are just not going to develop, I'm not sure yet. While I agree he is expensive I just don't see how you can get better value at 1.22 then the player you traded for in this case. I will for sure pay attention, maybe it's something we are doing wrong rather then the player himself.....

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am not saying the guy is a lock bust or anything. I have no idea. I just know he wasn't working on my team. His first three years I was OK with because he was developing and the team was playing well anyways. The last two years he hasn't made an impact like I would want, so ratings or not he was expendable to me.

As for the last two years I look at him dropping off from his 3rd season being impacted in part by a drop in talent behind him (LB and DB) and maybe a change from a 3-4 to 4-3 this last year. Who knows though.....

Comparing your DBs pass defense %, your teams pass rush % (via your opponents OLine stats), and your overall team and individual defensive stats might give some insight into what's working and what isn't while in that gray data area of building a defense. INTs and sacks would seem to require multiple things clicking together so I look to hurries, knockdowns and pass deflections for information when no INTs nor sacks are coming.

For instance my DLine wasn't getting the sacks I wanted last season but after closer look it seemed my "almost sacks" (hurries, knockdowns) were out of balance with the league norm so with the addition of Boyd this season I'd expect the sack-to-almost-sack ratio to increase quite a bit as the DLine gets a little more time.

Opponents also completed an inordinate amount of hurried passes against me. "So and so beat Johnny OLine bad and is chasing the quarterback" was simply a prelude to a completed medium pass most of the time. I expect the possibility of an INT to be increased during this time of "chasing the QB" and hopefully I'll have the talent in the secondary to bring more of them in now.

I expect Kinney to thrive in WV.

Kinney will be a center point of our defense. I have similar DEs in other leagues that have done very well in the 4-3 scheme that I use. But this league is....different....in how it handles the pass. So who knows what will happen with him. I'm just hoping to have more than 20 sacks next year.

                        .
I have always been a fan of the hurries stat for some reason, probably because I have always had a DE who excelled there. That includes the very same Kinney who two seasons ago had the 3rd most hurries in an Imperial season. He also had his career high of 8.5 sacks that year. I really think he just wasn't working for the Toads any more for one or more reasons, and he will do fine elsewhere. I would expect him to get at least 8 sacks in 2014.
