This is actually the most scary trade I've seen to date. . . I did not want Cleveland to "upgrade" their running attack.

I think I would have offered a 1st rounder to keep Jackson "off" Cleveland's roster. Witchita and Montreal, as well as most of the AFC should be concerned right now. Hell of a move Cleveland.

and the Clawz get a good RB, ouch.

Fargo let him go for a rather modest price, but since only 1 year remians on his contract I guess that is understandable.

roadrash, are you saying scared as in just how much better this could make Cleveland's running game? Or are you saying you think the trade is unbalanced?

Scared as in I have to play Cleveland twice this year, and every other year. . .Deason, a mediocre RB, gained 258 yards combined in two games on me in 2003 behind the best line in the IFL. Unless I massivly overhaul my D-line, which isn't likely due to the talent pool, I would suspect that Jackson can almost double that number. I think Jackson behind the Cleveland line can now attain a 2000 yard rushing year. I think every team that has Cleveland on the schedule this year should be shaking at this trade.

As far as being unbalanced, that's all interpretation as we've seen in the JaveGate trade. It's all a matter of personal opinion. In my opinion, Cleveland got a steal, but I'm a run-oriented guy. So for a Pass-Oriented guy like Jeff, it may be a Fargo gain. Fargo is the league's 3rd best passing team in 2003, Jackson wasn't really used all that much, 217 attempts for 945 yards, this is really a waste of money on a 1st tier RB. And they may be able to upgrade their passing game even more with the additinoal picks. Good WRs and TEs are avaible in the seoncd, third and sometimes even fourth rounds. Also figure that Fargo is gaining 2.3 million in cap room, which is enough to get a first tier WR easily.

So all-in-all, I can see that this is a good trade on both sides.

a simple "no" would have worked...

but you make good points, i just wanted to make sure you were not arguing the trade.

IMO Cleveland got a steal. Jackson appears to be a better back than Schutz. Unless he's asking for an insane amount of money to extend, I find it very odd for Fargo to settle for the 63rd pick and a 5th rounder after I was able to get a first (pick no. 24) and a second (and I wouldn't have setteled for any less) for my back. Ouch!

And I don't think any back should end up with 2,000 yards. That line isn't that talented. Guys need to adjust their gameplans. It's obvious as to what they are trying to do, so stack the box. Change your defensive run percentages and play aggressive run 'd'. It's either go down, or go down shooting. You might as well go down shooting.

I held Cleveland to 187 rushing yards in our last game. That was a success for me, considering my pourous D-line.

Cleveland's three division opponents are all ranked in the bottom 7 for rushing-D. The average is about 140 yards per game. Cleveland is above average, call it 190 yards per game. . .If Jackson gives Cleveland another 35 yards per game in just division games, he could have 900 yards in just 6 games. Granted, these numbers are not very solid, because Deason didn't get all the carries, but it's possible.

Just for the record, I feel that my o-line/RB combo will be just as effective in 2004 as Cleveland's. My gameplanning improved significantly over the second half of the season, and I found a very balanced O. I was 2nd in points in the AFC. I also had an outstanding Pass-D. If I can just get 1-2 players to move my Run-d from abysmal to average, I dont' think I can be stopped.
