The Fire are pleased to have filled what we felt was a particular need going into the 2004 offseason - a play-making 3rd receiver. With the free agent pool as weak as it is and the draft always being such an uncertainty we decided it was necessary to make a brash move. We would have been more than glad to have picked a player of Andrew's ability at our slot in the second round, so why not make this deal?

Andrew will step into the third wideout spot and will be on the field for the majority of offensive downs. We feel he should be able to catch in excess of 50 balls and get around 800 yards receiving. We can never have enough depth at a postion which we feel is vital to our team. Both of our starting wide receivers return kicks and it's always a possibility that one of them may get banged up. If that were the case - however unfortunate - boy it will be nice to fall back on this guy's shoulders.

        And on the other side:

I had three decent Split Ends. . .Andrew was the only one that didn't do double duty as a returner. Plus, my team is more run oriented, and while McKensie put up good numbers for me, he is not a key to my O. Two other players, one a FB, beat Mckensie in yards receiving, and I spread the ball around alot so the loss, of basically my "best receiver" doesn't hurt that much.

The second round pick gives me a 1 in 3 chance of hitting the lottery in the Draft for a DT. The FA market is almost non-existent at this position, so the Draft is my only hope. And since my last trade retired, I need the picks more than i need a receiver.
