Ha, actually, I was sitting with the 1-31 pick and Portland was online waiting to make his 1-32 pick. But I wanted both Long and [ifl]Phil Walz[/ifl], and Portland wouldn't trade with me until I told him that I was going to take Long with the 1-31 pick, who he wanted.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I figured I ought to clarify.

I was concerned Biggy was going to take one of the two RB's I was looking at and thus why I hesitated. Because of my hesitation Biggy offered to tell me he was looking at Long and I verified I was looking at him as well. I was also looking at Derrick Prescott and eventually made the trade hoping that the lone RB I was looking at would drop. Sadly that's exactly what happened and an awful pick was made when we selected Prescott.

Looking back, I should never have taken a RB there because neither Long nor Prescott really fit the offensive scheme. I was desperate for an able body at RB and was hoping for a player who could fill that void. Prescott was a decent backup RB, but never won the starting job outright and thus did the Terrence Greeley experiment begin.

To be honest, I wish you had not traded Prescott. He's a fine #2/3rd down back. Hell, he averaged 6.6 yards per carry last season (51 carries). I think Columbia got the best of you in both the Prescott and Goad deals.

Prescott didn't fit into the offense, IMHO. It's not that he was awful, but I was looking for more of a pass catching RB than what he was offering. I did like him on 3rd down situations though. He wasn't the answer at RB for the offense I was wanting to run after drafting Fields and Ameche.

Goad was a tough one. I didn't want to trade him, but I also knew I didn't have a spot for him in the 3-4 defense I was wanting to implement. My plan was to trade Gary Davis, but there just wasn't enough interest in Gary and thus Goad became expendable. In trading Goad, my hope was that I could grab a corner or safety in the upcoming draft.

At the time, I was happy with both trades in that I moved two players that didn't fit with our schemes. It probably didn't help you though depending on the schemes you're wanting to implement.
