  • The Hartford Pre-game Show

This is WHTD radio bringing you your Hartford Grizzlies Pre-Game Show! Today the Grizzlies enter the Viper's Lair to take on the 4-5 Norfolk Vipers. The Vipers are the second hottest team in the league after the Grizzlies, with a 4-1 record in their last 5 games. Their one loss was to division rival Boston on a last second touchdown pass from Angelo Hairston.

To commemorate Thanksgiving WHTD has flown in a gaggle of turkeys which will be dropped during the halftime show, in recognition of the national service rendered by the naval servicemen based in Norfolk.

Back to the game, the Grizzlies will have their hands full with the Norfolk offense. Harold "Finger" Lozier has finally pulled his finger out of his nose, and led the Vipers back into the division race. They are 1-1/2 games behind Hartford in the wildcard race, so this is a big game for them. William Brown has revitalized the Vipers running attack, but he is running behind a depleted offensive line this week. Two of the Vipers star linemen are out with Vetter and Sanabria both on the bench nursing leg injuries.

The scouts give the Grizzlies advantages in every category except QB and those depleted by injury LB and RB. It is hard to figure out why the scouts have said that, because Marcano has revitalized the Grizzlies running game after Julian Schwab went out for the season with a knee injury. The linebacking corps has lost Tony Martin with a knee injury but rookie OJ Boyer has stepped up admirably. In his last three starts he has averaged just over 5 tackles a game. A very respectable number given the Grizzlies team concept on defense.

Finally, how can you argue against the Grizzlies at quarterback? Are we watching a future superstar develop in Jerome Mueller. We saw the beginnings of something special in Cleveland when he led the Grizzlies comeback that just ran out of time at the end. After that, he has led the Grizzlies to a 4-0-1 record featuring wins over league leaders Witchita and West Virginia. He has compiled a league leading 102.7 passer rating. In his playing time this year he has fired 9 touchdown passes while turning the ball over just 2 times. Can he lead the Grizzlies into the fifth seed in the AC race? We'll see in a minute as they are set to get underway in Norfolk!

Do the turkeys have little parachutes? Or are they frozen turkeys from a store?

The only option left is a bloody mess, and the leagu may frown upon that. It does not look good on T.V. when the field is turned to mud with blood and feathers....

Good pre-game view ... but the pre-press on Mueller could have gotten him "the big head" ... as the Vipers hand him his first loss, brought him back to earth by curbing his % completions to a league norm, no TDs but no Ints either and and potentially sidelined him to nurse an injury for a week or two.

Very pleased with the Viper's play as of recent and hope that it continues as the AC EAST gets even tighter. Any team is this division can truly put the hex on another divisional foe.

Look forward to the round 2 in week 15.

Gotta agree with you. The one thing that still boggles me is the three most important stats for the game, fumbles, penalties, and punting average!

I still think your punter deserved the POTG. I like to win ugly, I just got out-uglied this week! :P

I'd add one other stat: REDZONE PROFILE

            TEAM VISITS TDs FGs

            Hartford .. 2... 1... 0
            Norfolk ... 4... 1... 3

Also, QB did not get POTG, the "other" Kicker got the award (5 field goals in the game).

In any case, spirits will be high for both teams come week 15!

I agree that your team did a great job of capitalizing on mistakes. Look at your starting field position. That was set up by your punter and fumbles on my part. Heck, he had something like a 52 yard punt that was downed at my 8! He set up the situations to force mistakes on my part, and the rest of the team capitalized on them. It's hard to keep you out of the red zone when you only need to get 15-20 yards to get there. Given my past history, I am thrilled that you only scored one TD when you got inside the 20. I got something right this week.

On the flip side, I have not had tons of injuries this year, but the ones I have had have been devastating, two key players out for the year, and now my second QB injury. I've got to figure out what I am going to do this week.
