Anchorage, AL - It's nice to get a win against a top contender on their homefield, but it's even nicer to escape with a win on their homefield when you turn the ball over FOUR times!
The Griz defense came up big, as Harry Moss lead the Griz offense to two first half touchdowns, and the defense made that stand as the Griz escaped with a 14-13 victory. With all the miscues by the Griz, the margin of victory was an extra point attempt that missed wide left.
Much of the blame for the loss has been heaped on Jake Carter's right foot, who also missed two long FGs, but Coach C.J. Gunn (who incidently just had his name officially changed earlier in the week) points out that the Griz could have put two more touchdowns on the board if not for costly turnovers. "All year, people have not wanted to give us credit, since we've been winning ugly. We could have won this game going away, one turnover inside our twenty led to their second touchdown, and we turned the ball over twice inside their 40!"
As mentioned above, Coach Toby Namdlatr has changed his name to C.J. Gunn. As Coach Gunn explained, "I just had this feeling that I needed to change my name to get more respect." Griz GM John "Warhammer" Richert had this to say regarding his Coach's name change, "Every time I looked at the coaching staff, I thought we needed to add a Head Coach, then I looked on Tuesday and we had one!" When asked why they did not think of hiring one earlier in the year the Griz GM replied, "You don't mess with a winning streak!"
Next week, the Griz will host the Renegades at home, whose offensive attack they hope to render impotent.
