Draft:
3.15 (OT) Lionel Hoffman - While not an immediate need I felt his value was too good to pass on at this point in the draft given that my next pick wasn't until round 5. He'll likely see a lot of playing time early as my incumbent at LT is pretty long in the tooth and already took a ratings hit last offseason. Yes, he probably won't have much in the way of run blocking but I've got guards for that.
5.16 (LB) Conner Humprey - small but his combines say "system fit"; one of the few LBs that actually had a green combine score when my pick came up.
6.15 (RB) Nick Garner - after watching Langston, Wiley, and Hochheiser all come of the board earlier than I anticipated (damn it!!!), I wasn't going to draft a RB--YES, I really wanted to one of the above mentioned grinders! Yes I had a shot at 2 of them in the 3rd BUT I just couldn't draft a RB over Hoffman in that spot. Last night after Argot snagged a pretty good looking 3rd down back late, I got to re-evaluating the prospects and interviewed a couple of guys in this morning's stage--ole' Garner came back as very underrated and I pulled the trigger. I have no idea what he is but the bars look like he'll be 'enough' should we have to do without Wiggins for a spell.
7.6 (QB) Martin Stokes - this was a hideous draft class for QBs. I drafted him based on the Sole score vs Intelligence vs Read Defense concept. Dude has a 55.5 bar rating in DA but an absolutely horrid combine score--However, that agility (7.32) matches up with the screen pass and sense rush bars. He's got limits to what he can do but I need a young guy that fits my system who won't be turnover-prone. That 8 bench press is funny but that scrambling ability adds a dimension I love and my division mates HATE 8)
7.17 (CB) Zack Donald - replacement for CB Buchanan's move to LON, passed on some speedier M2M guys for more of a scheme fit; no expectations of this player. Just need a low-budget guy who can play in our system.
*It's not a studly class--but I think got a starter at OT; a LB to groom behind the vets I just signed; a #2 RB to spell Beastmode; a cheap QB prospect.
Free Agency / Trades / LFA:
(FB) Andrew Sotiroff - A true run blocking relic and mentor for my FBs
(ILB) Zach McMeel - needed a veteran in the middle to start in front of the rookie I got
(SLB) Brett Price - Upgrade over Fuqua which now gives some depth at the position
(NT) Shawn Caldwell - Depth and options on the D-line. With Caldwell in the mix, I can play NT Austin @ LE and get NT Tatum on the field more
(CB) Leland Hoover - Scoring those DBs in last year's draft got me a SS and LCB; Hoover gets the nod at the Two Corner (RCB) and is another piece in our Red Sky Scheme.
