JR: Welcome back to the Jungle, I'm your host Jim Rome
I'd like to welcome my next guest to the program. He's the prolific DE from the Newark Bulldogs, "Double J" Justin Jones. Welcome to the Jungle!
JJ: Thanks for having me, Jim
JR: Justin, I guess my first question is, what is happening in Newark. I mean, the defense is great but the offense forgot how to score touchdowns.
JJ: I couldn't agree more. It's frustrating for the guys on this team. And when I say "this team", I mean the defense. We are a great unit. The offense is dispicable. I'm ashamed.
JR: Those are some pretty harsh words, man!
JJ: That's the way it is. I'm like my good friend James Tart, I speak my mind. I just don't understand the direction of this team. We didn't do anything in the offseason to better ourselves. We needed a lot of help on "that" side of the ball. Things weren't taken care of, and I hold the organization responsible for that. Hutson hasn't been the same since his abducter muscle tear. So we draft a guy and expect him to be the saviour? Robey is the only WR on this team worth talking about. I don't even know the names of the other receivers. It's really a slap in the face to the D.
JR: Your team is being blasted by the local media. Your coach is on the record as saying, and I quote "I'm a defensive coach. I get paid for what I know about defense. If you want a great offense, get someone in here that can do that! Don't bite into an apple and expect it to taste like an orange!" end quote.
JJ: That's right. Coach is pissed too! We're doing our job. the front office really dropped the ball. This past offseason we had the opportunity to get someone in here that could run the football. They tried to get Issac Campbell. They tride to trade up in the draft to get either Ricardo Andrews or Wesley Connell. They tried to get James Tart. All expletive excuses man! If you really want someone, you get him! Those guys were all available. The Bulldogs were just too cheap to get them. Instead were ok with our rookie FB taking over as a starting HB. What a expletive joke!
JR: Are you happy?
JJ: Do I look happy, mother expletive? I want to win! Plain and simple. I want to play for a winner. I don't want to play for a a loser.
JR: Are you saying you don't want to play in Newark anymore?
JJ: I don't want to play in Newark if we don't win. We need some major changes around here, on the offense. Our biggest hole is at the RB position. How the hell are we gonna sign a player when our cap number is at $88mil next year? We're on a downward spiral, and I don't want to be on a rebuilding team. It makes absolutly no sense at this stage in my career.
JR: Have you asked to be traded?
JJ: I don't need to ask! If things don't change in the 2nd half of the season and unless we somehow make the playoffs, I want to be gone. Losing this past week really scewed up our chances of making the playoffs. I'll continue to play at 110% 'casue it's my name on the back of the jersey. You'll never see double J go half-assed. I'll let my agent handle the offseason.
JR: Time's up in the Jungle, any parting shots you wanna make?
JJ: I'm a winner, baby. I'll be a winner in Newark, I'll be a winner somewhere else. Thanks for having me Jim. I'm glad I had a forum to get some things of my chest.
JR: Always a pleasure. That was Justin Jones joining the program. We'll be back right after this!
