  • Legendary Team Rebranded!

    Mass Marauders Alert!

The team formerly known as the Lawrence Phantoms has been officially retired.

The team has been rebranded the Mass Marauders.

The Mass Marauders were an Arena Football League that played in Massachussets beginnning in 1988, and lasting until 1994. It gives the fictional Imperial League franchise a connection to real life football.

The original team colors were Maroon, Black, and White with silver helmets, and the rebrand is now Red, White, Black and Chrome.

The team helmet is the first Chrome Dome helmet in the Imperial League.

"We're taking the advice of the legendary Jesterblaze, and changing everything." Hoosier.

It's sure to be a controversial move, but I like the play on the state's abbreviation and the nickname.

Mass Marauders Rookie Draft: A+ Ingame!

                      Go BIG or Go Home!

The Mass Marauders first Imperial League rookie draft gets offensively big on the o line.

The first two picks were a pair of bookend offensive tackles.

"They look a lot alike, both are big at 6-5, and both have above average strength and endurance bars.

                      Bookend Number One:

First round, seventeenth pick of the draft, Marauders select left tackle Abraham Givens out of Baylor.

                      Givens stats:

                      Lands: 32/74
                      #5 on the Green Page
Youngest Man on the League's Strongest Man List
                      6-5, 317 lbs
                      very low volatility
                      Fits In

The kid is already on the Imperial League's Strongest Man List, so that's a plus already. Toss in his endurance bar ratings and combine scores, and he looks to be a no brainer.

                      He'll start from day one.

                      Bookend Number Two:

The sixteenth pick in the second round is right tackle Allen McNeil from the Arizona Wildcats.

                      The stats:

                      Lands 25/47
                      6-5, 325 lbs
                      Low volatility
                      Fits In

Above average combine scores in Bench, Sole, and Agility, and a maxed out bar in Endurance, and he'll start at right tackle from day one. He'll have to drop a few pounds, but ...what the heck, so do I.

                      Stay Big Or Go Home!

Second round, pick 17 Looms Large as LSU Tight End Lands in Mass!

                      Jordan Barber, Tight End

                      The Stats:

                      Lands 38/62
                      6-3, 255 lbs
                      Average volatility
                      Fits in

I liked the kids combines and thought he was the second best tight end in the draft. The only problem bar is Avoid Drops, but I can live with that since we hold our tight ends back for blocking more than we release them for passing downs.

                      Third Round: Big Back Attack!

With the nineteenth pick in the third round Mass Marauders stay big and pick up a strong running back from Cincinnati. The former Bearcat Jake Killian.

                      Stats:

                      Lands: 31/42
                      6-2, 230 lbs.
                      High volatility
                      Fits In

Great Combine Scores in Agility and Position Drill caught our scouts eyes while the rest of the scores were pretty much standard. His Bars reflect excellent Agility and Endurance as well as Specials contributor. I like the kid. He may not be Ducky Mallard, but he'll start for us this season.

                      Fourth Round Marauders Grab Quarterback

Rice Owl qb Ian "Deadwood" Bullock is a long term project. At 8% developed and seven formations, he's a work in progress. He's one of the fastest rookie quarterbacks in the draft and has Great Combine scores in Dash, Solevision, and Position Drill. His bars indicate a good young prospect with strong potential and only three poor bars.

                      Stats:
                      Lands: 7/34
                      6-1, 218 lbs
                      High volatility
                      Fits In
                      7 formations

He has great kick holding ability! Yeah buddy!

Fifth Round: The Accidental Marauder, Maurice Gilmore, running back from Wofford.

The eighteenth pick in the fifth round is an acciental Marauder when miscommunications between the Front Office and the Draft Utility hit a snafu, and we picked up a second rookie back.

                      The Stats:

                      Lands: 33/45
                      5-11, 218 lbs.
                      High volatility
                      Affinity

The positives: He's a strong back with great agility. He's a tad bit faster than Killian who was taken in the third, and he's a better receiving back out of the backfield. He'll split time with his fellow rookie and will be our passing situation running back.

Sixth round, 17th pick, Marauders look for Safety: Anthony Newman, Temple Owls.

                      Lands: 19/34
                      6-1, 208 lbs
                      Very high volatility
                      Fits In

We look for speed in our defensive backs, and his Great Combine Score in the Dash caught our eye. He doesn't really have any bad Combine Scores except for Broad Jump, but just about every Safety in the Rookie Draft were cursed with a similar Combine Score in Broad Jump. His bars in Interceptions and Zone Defense are very good, and I like the kid.

                      7th Round.... Snapper Anyone?

Long Snapper Doug Gomez from Auburn. We'll have to see what he's about when he lands. He's a long snapper. And that's about it.

And he lands like a big dummy. Draft a long snapper to do one thing...and he can't do that! Dag nab it!

                      Hoosier's After Action Review:

I'm an old dodger when it comes to building teams, I still think that both lines are important, and you build from that foundation. We have a good center in the twilight of his career, and a great young guard. What we were missing were the tackles. Marauders picked up a young stud at left tackle, and a solid good young prospect at right tackle who I hope will creep and be a long term answer at that position.

Our defensive line is already pretty solid with second year defensive end Sigman, and fourth year defender Eikenger recreating Thunder and Lightning, Strength and Technique, on the d line. So this season, we could afford to concentrate on the offensive foundation.

We have the beginnings of a strong team worthy of the Marauders nickname.

                      I like where we are.
