  • Griz Win the Big One!

Hartford, CONN (AP) - The Hartford Grizzlies have continued their rise from a early season disappointment to a AC East contender. As the day began, Hartford sat at 3-3-1 with their archrivals the West Virginia Beasts at 6-2 coming to town.

In a surprise move, Jerome Mueller started over the veteran Scott Nelson, and led the Griz to a convincing 20-17 victory. After spotting West Virginia an early 7-0 lead, the Griz closed to 7-6 after two Booher field goals. Then Mueller led the Grizzlies downfield to take a 13-7 lead after William Marcano capped off a 52 yard drive with a 6 yard touchdown run.

After the 3rd Quarter began, it appeared as though the Grizzlies that lost to West Virginia in week one had returned. Two consecutive Grizzlies turnovers led to 10 Beasts points, and a 17-13 deficit. Led by Jerome Mueller, the Grizzlies battled back. The defense stiffened, and Jerome Mueller led the Grizzlies on an 8 play, 85 yard touchdown drive that broke the back of the Beasts. After the defense again stopped the Beasts, Jerome led another 73 yard drive that ended on the West Virginia 7 as time ran out.

There is talk of a QB controversy in Hartford, but it remains to see what is going to happen. Coach Mills claims that Nelson will not lose his job because of his injury, but the results do speak for themselves. The Grizzlies are 1-3-0 in Scott Nelson's starts, and are 3-0-1 in Jerome Mueller's starts.
