After starting the majority of games for the Stallions the past 5 years, QB Don Downing, a 3rd round pick by Little Rock out of Temple in 2018, was unceremoniously cut by SLC brass this week. This news was not a big surprise as SLC chose to clean house - cutting ties with three QBs, including former first rounders Antonio Tyler and Doug Hull, to make room for new arrivals.
Rumors are that the veteran QB has already fielded a call from the Stallion's NC West rival Vancouver - who may be more interested in obtaining information Downing has on the Stallion's offense, rather than having him actually competing to back up McNeil.
In other NC West news, there was no progress this past wek in the contract impasse between Vancouver's management and 2nd year CB Charlie Schenk. Schenk is refusing to report to training camp as he wants his rookie contract redone. Management says they are willing to give him more money and an extension, but what he is asking for is outrageous - citing his poor endurance. Although he was effective when on the field last year, he has a tendency to take plays off and needs to be rested frequently.
