This week's regular season ending matchup with the Warthogs is a watershed moment for the hapless Matador franchise. Los Angeles is the hottest team in the Imperial right now with six consecutive wins, pushing their record to 8-7, just one win from the clubs best record in ten seasons. The last time we had a 9-7 record was 2013. Ten mediocre at best seasons. A win would also give us a winning record for only the second time in fifteen seasons. It would also give us a gaudy division record of 5-1. Not even Portland can match that, as we've swept the Seals for the first time in aeons. Probably...ever.
Playoffs? A long shot for sure. But getting that 9-7 record...that's something to build upon.
Then again, the off season will be challenging. Right now we're only $500 thousand under the cap and we have 4 seasoned veterans in their last contract year and we can't renegotiate. We'll have to let three go to free agency, while one....wide receiver Frankie Shields, will have the franchise tag slapped on him.
It's one of those predicaments.
But, we'll focus on getting our seventh consecutive win this weekend and deal with the off season when it hits us.
