The Yon That Got Away.
Looking dejected, sitting in his locker after the game, Charles Yon did not shy away from reporters questions.
"I gave away the game, pure and simple. I don't drop that kick, we can win that game".
Yons 4th Quarter fumbled punt return set Boston up for a decisive TD that put them ahead 20-10 with only 2 minutes left in the game, but his teamates were not so quick to assign blame. "We had 20 yards to keep them out of the endzone and we didn't do it, we hold them to a field goal there and who knows what happens, CDog (reffering to Yon) isn't alone out there" said MLB and team captain Noel Daniels.
The Cardinals defense played well all day but 2 late Boston scores put a damper on an otherwise festive day for the city as the Cardinals returned home for the first time in over 15 years to play at Busch Stadium. "It's a tough loss, but seeing that helmet and that group of talented young players more than makes up for it", said long time resident Paul Jumaine.
Cline Gets Surprise Start.
No one was more surprised than Jason Cline to get the start in the Cards home opener on Sunday, "Coach told me Friday night that I was gonna get the start, i was surprised but excited". Following the game, coach Tyrell Nichols said that it was more than likely a 1 time thing, "Mark is our starter, but today, with this amount of excitement....and that can lead to pressure, I wanted to break him in slowly", Nichols said, referring to rookie QB Mark McMurray. "I was fine with it, and I'll be fine with it if it happens again, we're a team, and if coach thinks that Jason gives us a better chance of winning a game here or there than I can deal with that, it's my job to show him that i'm the guy though", he said with a wink.
Players Of The Week
RB's Alexus Winston and Walter McKelvey combined for 20 carries and 109 yards.
Winstons 37 yard TD run was the only TD for the Cardinals on the day.
Phillip Brauers had 3 catches for 62 yards.
LB Anibal Stafford had 11 tackles while Noel Daniels had 16 tackles to go along with 11 assists.
Defensive Ends Louie Maldonado, Albert Covington and LB James Brunner each recorded a sack.
