Demons Ride Defense To Win In Fresno

Facing a stiff test on the West Coast the Demons prevailed over the Fresno Warthogs 20-10 behind a superb defensive showing. Fresno led by QB Albert Schwartz
found things a bit tougher this week after racking up 515 total yards against Los Angeles the week prior. The Demons defense held the Warthogs to an impressive
    230 total yards.

The Demons caught a break early in the 3rd quarter when Schwartz went down with an apparent leg injury, he did not return. Schwartz was hit by LB Louis McCarthy
on a TD throw to TE Emmanuel Doggett. Fresno fans were livid as they thought McCarthy laid a late hit on Schwartz. There was no flag on the play but Fresno's
OL took exception to the shot as there was a lot of shoving going on. Order was restored but the Warthogs were down their best player and field general. After
the game McCarthy (5 tackles, 1 sack) talked about the play. "No way in hell that was a late hit and no way in hell did I try to hurt the guy," McCarthy said.
Backup QB Donovan Daniels came in for Schwartz and was kindly greeted with 3 sacks, 1 fumble, and 1 interception.

QB Dennis Grier who is showing much improvement so far this year was 17/21 for 153 yds. with 1 TD and a QB Rating of 112.9. Grier is completing 71.4% of his passes
this year, a remarkable improvement from last seasons 56.7%. "I spent like 8 weeks with Jon Gruden this past offseason working on my mechanics. The ball is coming
out a lot better and my release point is more consistent so far. Training with Jon has helped me so much," Grier said.

Nobody is smiling more these days then HC Mitch Montgomery. Rumored to be on the hot seat this year the coach has the Demons off to their best start in 4 seasons.
"These guys are playing their hearts out and they deserve all the credit. The season is young but so far so good. We need to stay focused and not read the newspapers
on how good we are doing. Believe me, this is still a work in progress," Montgomery said.

The Demons will travel to Charlotte, NC next week to face the Carolina Catfish. Carolina is led by young gun QB Wesley May. Carolina is currently 0-2 on the season.

I'm trying to immerse myself once again with the articles. The game has flaws but I'm trying to find the fun again. Thx Jester!

I'm currently contemplating an extremely strong draft push towards an almost-all-defensive team, for better or worse but hopefully also fun.

That is what I have been trying to do past few seasons. I've been trying to build a stout defense with a ball control offense. Not that I prefer that type of offense but its basically all I have to work with right now.

I think were a lot better now but we more then likely don't stand much of chance against the elite teams in the league. Just not enough firepower on offense to match up with those type of teams.
