Coming off the heels of an IFL Bowl victory, many Phantom Phans were shocked today when Owner/GM Jester Blaze traded away picks 1.32, 2.20, 3.3, and 4.32 while he has yet to make a player selection. Social media outlets were rampant with negative reactions so we caught up with Mr. Blaze.
SW: "After just winning it all weeks ago, most Phans wanted to see an added playmaker to solidify a chance at another run. Can you shed some light on the thought process behind today's trades?"
JB: "The Wichita trade was offered to us from out of the blue. Most moves that save us cap trouble, don't lose us a player, and bring in a future 1st will be accepted. This wasn't an exception to that guideline."
"The Anchorage deal was also cap related, and again we're trading cap trouble for a future 1st without losing a current player. Again there was no exception here."
"There are certain draftees worth paying the price for and juggling around salaries elsewhere. We didn't see any of those left at 1.32, but the drop off wasn't that big so we might be in the market to move up from 2.32 depending on how things play out."
SW: "So there's a chance that we'll see a solid rookie in 2023?"
JB: "There's a good chance that we'll see quite a few I hope. Late rounds are always the best rounds in my opinion."
