I rode DH until he retired. And Im glad I did. He was a key component in every season of his career. A perpetual 1000 yard rusher that could catch.
I have tried to RB by committee and using the average back. Heck, I took that kid in the 2nd last year. 800 yards a year by a RB is a big difference from 1500 yards a year.

I'm jealous, what can I say.

I'd have loved to draft this guy.
He's going to be a solid RB as long as you've got a QB, after that we may be able to gameplan to hold him down.

"Propane" is already doing that in Lawrence... while fumbling once every 164 rushing attempts.

1.7 Madison Demons: DT Herb VEGA. Ohio State.

Boss has plenty of holes to fill in Madison.
The team does not have a talented starter at any of the big three offensive slots (QB/RB/WR) and I think this is the point where guys like QB Dan Lester and WR Clyde Abrahams start getting a long hard look.
However, with so many areas of the roster needing an injection of top talent, there is no need to force the issue here and I see the Demons going BPA.

OG Boren is going to be a top guard in this league but 1.7 is too high for that position.
Safety Watkins and LB Champions will be discounted as Madison already look to have those positions covered.
With a nice LB corps already in place, a dominant D-lineman would make a lot of sense here and DT Herb Vega fits the bill.

Vega has great combine scores, is a fantastic run stuffer and is one of those rare interior D-linemen that can really get after the QB.
He will provide a fantastic anchor point to really hang this emerging defense on.

1.8 Vermont Moutaineers: LT Wally GUTHRIE. Vanderbilt

The Mountaineers have drafted defense, defense, defense with their recent 1st rd picks under Coder but I think this is the year he grabs some offensive talent.
LB Champion may sorely tempt the Swedish GM as current MLB Ricky Moss enters his tenth year, but with OT Anderson now in his twelfth year and little behind him on the depth chart, Guthrie will be playing in green next year.

Guthrie is big, strong and a hugely impressive pass blocker.
His protection skills mean he will play LT in the pros and immediately Vermont have a lynchpin on the left to protect whoever becomes their QB in the next few seasons.
Check off one offensive building block.

1.9 Louisiana Voodoo: OLB Vince CHAMPION. Stanford.

The Voodoo have a new GM in GGill and it's always tricky to 'read' a new owner.
Louisiana are also at a turning point in their franchise history and after nearly a decade of losing the fans are getting restless.
Several top drawer players on the roster are in the final year of their present contract, or do not have much of a bonus due.
Guys like CB Collier, RT Garrison, SS Wollmuth and TE Dixon may just become excellent trade bait as they all have good value and would give their new GM some great ammo to really start to make this team his own.

If GGill decides to trade away some talent and load up on future draft picks, then drafting any position in this draft class would make sense.
For a team that will likely be posting a losing season for a few more seasons, it is always smart to draft the best talent available.
OLB Vince Champion is that guy.

The Voodoo employ a 3-4 defense and although Champion played SLB in college, he looks to have the skill set and speed to move across to the Will.
His blazing speed and impressive strength mean he can reach the QB with ease and mark my words, he's gonna get some sacks.
Louisiana grab a defensive playmaker and the new GM has an instant favorite....someone he can call his own.

1.10 St Louis Cardinals: QB Dan LESTER. Brown

St Louis have some pieces in place although many fans still pine for Bazooka.
The Cards have dipped again after their 2021 showing promised a resurgence.
Suicane isn't far off getting this team competative, especially in a weaker AC South division.

QB Dan Lester will make another visit because none of the passers on the Cardinals roster really fill the fanbase with confidence.
Young gun Watson did well in the final weeks of last season whilst Mario Gurley sulked.
Lester is probably as good if not better than both of those guys but is he good enough to convince Sui to pull the trigger?

He has the size, a good sol-int ratio and is very aware in the pocket.
Lots of scouts came away from the combine saying Lester was very underrated and his stock is rising.
The Brown alumni had nice combines across the board and he looks the kind of player that can grow into his position.

If the Cards can solve their QB issue and make Bazooka a fading memory then this team can challenge for the division.
With that in mind, St Louis takes a deep breath and goes all in on Lester.

Deep breath....got to 1.10 and I now feel it's getting harder to make a plausible projection.

DaveT asked if I could go to 1.11 so I shall try and do one more tomorrow before the draft kicks off.

Hope it was good reading and fingers crossed I got a couple of picks right at least.

good work... I do a mock every year in the RDFL and it is always hard work after the top few picks and even then sometimes you get them wrong!

1.11 Murfreesboro Mules: WR Clyde ABRAMS. Michigan

The Mules sit at 1.10 where there is arguably a slight step down in talent.
They will need to examine their options wisely if they are to draft well.
Dthompso8 is a shrewd GM who will conduct his due diligence with prospects like OG Boren, CB Sedrick Evans and LB Dexter Hargrove.
DE Dallesandro might get a long hard look after his excellent combine but in the end, offense is always worth investing in and the Mules snag the top rated receiver in this class.

Abrams has decent size, good speed and and safe hands.
He knows the route tree inside out, doesn't tire easily and is great at picking up YAC.
The guy looks like a class SE to me and this would allow Detsch to move to flanker in the Mules sceme.
You can never have enough talented receivers and Murfreesboro add another to their stable.
