  • QB Controversy In Georgia?

One of the positions that Georgia fans felt was stable long term was at Quarterback. Billy Troutman, in only his third year, threw for 3,765 yards with 31 TDS and only 13 Interceptions for a very good 95.3 QB rating. But people in the know have been watching the development of another QB on the roster, Dwight Mahe.

Expectations were low on Dwight Mahe when he was drafted late in the sixth round last year, but Mahe had a great camp last year. He consistently wowed the media and coaches at minicamps and training camp, and after a summer at the Solecismique Summer League, people were curious to see how Mahe would look this time around. Would he be a TC wonder and never materialize? Or would he become that pesky backup QB that the fans call for when the starter has a bad game.

Well, Troutman should be concerned. Mahe had a solid offseason and finished it up with an even better preseason. Mahe finished the preseason 48/70 for 596 yds (Including a 300 yard effort in the finale), with 5 TDS and 0 INTS. So was it enough for head coach Russell Badalyan to make a QB change? It's unlikely. But maybe Mahe is the difference that Badalyan, who is currently on the hotseat in Georgia, needs to keep his job. The organization has been consistent on the issue, stating that their starting QB in Troutman. But sources with inside information say that there is a good chance that Mahe starts week 1, especially considering he has been getting some reps with the first team. Stay tuned.

    Nice read Beeznik.
Troutman is one of the real unsung talents in the IFL.
It would be a big shock to see him benched.
I'll be watching the controversy with interest.
    Keep us informed man.
