1.12 William Meier WR Stanford 30/54
With Earnest Goldberg entering his 11th year in the IFL, the Whalers needed to get younger at the WR corps. Meirer will have a year or two to learn under Goldberg until he has to step into the spot light.
2.11 Mickey Atkins DE Alcorn State 28/48
With a strong group of LBs and an average secondary (see 3.10), the Whalers needed an improvement along the D-line. Atkins has really high pass rush bars but not much else. I'm hoping he plays above his rating with big sack numbers.
3.10 Orlando Brisset S Baylor 30/53
The Whalers have great CBs and steaming turds at Saftey. Brisset should jump in at FS and contribute sooner rather than later.
4.14 Arnold Sinclair TE Auburn 23/48
The Whalers haven't had an above TE in well...since I've been running the show in Hartford. We didn't catch lightning in a bottle with Sinclair. At least we got younger with this pick
5.13 Keith Boyington G Wake Forest 24/54
The Whalers have a good but oldish O-Line. Boyington helps get younger and, if he develops like he should, better.
6.12 Deion Owens QB Florida 9/43
14th yr veteran back-up Bo Barajas is in the twilight of his career. It's time to start grooming Johnson's future back-up.
7.11 Edgar Page RB Idaho State 29/47
With the retirement of Charlie Maxwell, the Whalers need a 3rd down back. Page will step into Maxwell's cleats quite nicely. They have the same size shoe.
All in all, not a spectacular draft, but the Whalers added some depth and some future starters.
