    Off-Season News

With another unsuccessful season in the books, the team felt that they would focus on continuing to build through the draft and focus on signing their own free agents in an effort to see if they can build on the league's youngest roster and turn the team around.

    Key Losses -

Dana Glover - WR - Retirement - A key offensive vet that will impact a young team
Charlies Sharpe - T - Free Agency - Big loss for the Oline but the team has a few young players looking for the shot to play
Antonie Freese/Lance Crummey/Wendell Collier - Dline - Trade to Texas - Dline depth lost but the team has other players ready for fill the roles.

    Key Additions -

Stephen Scott - QB - Scott brings in a needed veteran presence at the QB position. The move give the younger guns a vet to turn to for guidance, but also should give the team a viable arm to lead the offense

The team did not do much this offseason in free agency, or via trades to add players to the roster. The team is very happy with the current roster and feels that they can add the needed pieces via the draft.

    Draft News -

With the 4th pick in the 1st round the Crusaders select:

Randal Meyer - DE - Florida State (precamp 46/79)

Meyer should par up well with 3 year pro Max Kolsrud to provide a solid defensive line presence in 2022. Meyer appears to be a day one starter in camp

With the 13th pick in the 1st round the Crusaders select:

Frank Sims - DT - Purdue (precamp 33/57)

Sims was a player that was not initially on the teams boards this early, but the scouts sold their faith in the young Dlineman as a player of need in a major hole on the Dline. Sims should push for a starting job in 2022 in the Crusaders 4-3 defense.

With the 3rd pick in the 2nd round the Crusaders select:

Tyrus Clark - QB - St. Peters University (precamp 13/62)

Clark fills a major need, the addition of Scott via free agency should give Clark a window to work with an established QB and a security blanket for the team if Clark struggles early. But the addition of Clark will put some players at QB on notice and it appears the job is Clark's to lose

With the 12th pick in the 2nd round the Crusaders select:

    Lester Grant - WR - Texas A&M (precamp 23/61)

Grant fills another major need and gives the new arms on the roster a legit target to throw too. Grant is being tabbed as the teams #2 WR going into camp

With the 4th pick in the 3rd round the Crusaders select:

    Levon Leak - S - Vanderbilt (precamp 14/60)

Leak will likely be moved to SS in the Crusaders defense but his versatility and speed will almost surely secure him a spot in the starting line up.

I like the photos to go with the write up. I had to look up St. Peter's College and the Peacocks don't even have a football team anymore - lol. I guess maybe by 2016 or so they'll get it back...

After no selections in rounds 4 and 5 the Crusaders return to the war room to focus on their 2 back to back selections in round 6 and their 2 selections in round 7.

With the 2nd pick in the 6th round the Crusaders select

Jesse Dosoo - TE - Michigan State (precamp 25/48 )

Dosoo was a target in the early rounds but the team focused on bigger needs. With Dabbs holding down the #1 TE position and vet TE Mueller in his final year, Dosoo figures to be in the teams plans for the near future.

With the 3rd pick in the 6th round the Crusaders select

Phil Singleton - QB - Syracuse (precamp 10/45)

With so many question marks at the QB position in Chicago its not a surprise that the Crusaders took a late round gamble on another QB. With rumors that Alston and Janis are the outs, Singleton appears to be a good candidate to make the final roster.

With the 1st pick in the 7th round the Crusaders select

Mike Tyler - ILB - Arizona (precamp 22/43)

While ILB was not a need, Tyler's size works to his advantage here and there are some that think he could move outside or be a pass rushing specialist off the end.

With the 4th pick in the 7th round the Crusaders select

Rickey Hastings - LB - Southern Illinois (precamp 21/48 )

A WLB pass rushing specialist that will help spell the starters on passing downs.

With the final selection of the 2022 draft.

With the 20th pick in the 7th round the Crusaders select

Herman Cameron - TE - Arizona State (precamp 23/61)

While a TE was not a need there were some scouts in the war room saying that the team needed to give Cameron a shot, so the team traded a future 7th for the right to select the TE. Will likely compete for the backup TE position behind Dabbs.
