  • A Statistical Analysis of the ImperialFL Receivers

Being the stat geek that I am I thought it'd be cool to do some sort of analysis on all of the receivers in the Imperial Football League - something nice to pass time before I unleash my multi-set of team power rankings next week or the one thereafter (just not enough of a sample yet).

I'm no statistical genius, so I decided to do some research and see if anyone else has done some research on this subject. Sure enough, someone has devised a formula which seems to do a pretty good job at rating receiver performances with all the basic (and available) data. So none of this is my own work, I'm just plugging in the our league data. Props to Ross Smith and Tim Connelly.

    http://home.nc.rr.com/rosmith/nfl/ni.html

The following is a list of the top 50 ImperialFL players (WR,TE,RB,FB included) sorted by Ross Smith's Receiver Rating. This includes data from last season in addition to data from the first three games in 2004. In my next post, I'll compare how things match up with the ratings put up by the 2004 NFL Wide Receivers.

***So once again I'm having problems with formatting HTML on the board. The good thing is that I think it has something to do with the sheer size of my post. I got it to preview correctly, but when it was submitted it got all fucked up. Check out the thread linked below if you want to see this stuff.***

Pereira only came in 12th, he torched the Mules last year.

On the NFL front if Bennett was more consistent he would be an All-Pro Mason at 15 seems about right for a top notch posession guy. Harrison and Wayne right next to each other in the top 10 struck me cause with all the media hype I figured the weenie would have been in the top 3 or so.

Yeah, I've got it working right. I just think it was the size. I had to keep cutting the number of players down because I was getting php errors. I know that there's something wrong with the formatting at FOFC. I didn't really care about that as long as it was aligned right.

rasher, I've got a question though. What I actually do is copy things from Excel over to Frontpage and then past the html. What I don't understand is why there is so much code. This is what it looks like for the simple table above this post (which only has 10 rows). Is there a better way to be doing this?

          Code:

Yuck, MS generates bad looking code because it includes nearly all the variables, where you can get away with the browser defaults for most of it.

Well you everything you need for an entire HTML page. unfortunatly the board will ignore most of teh tags.

Styles require style sheets, so anything that says style won't work. I don't think you can change the text color either, so that is out. the only required data for a table is the following which would be surrounded by "table and "/table in [] of course and

              col 1 row 1col 2 row 1

You can use excel to do the code. First col is all the way down, last col is then you need your tds and /tds for each col in the row. then save it as tab deliminated. .

Here is a quick run from excel
