    Phantoms 2021 Draft

    1.15 (1.26, 2.9, & 2.28 ) Joe Peterson, LDT->LDE:

We paid quite a price for Joe but feel he was misused at DT in college and still was a top 10 draft talent at the position. The plan from day 1 is to move Joe over to RDE to replace the soon to be departing Vernon Copeland and give us one of the best DE tandems in the league when paired with "Willie Bo" Bohannan. Opposing QBs beware! His best days are ahead of him at Defensive End.
Update: Joe has convinced us that the left side is his natural side and promises to improve if allowed to play there. Willie Bohannan has agreed to move over to the right side to make way for the rookie.
    Height: 6'2" Weight: 281 lb.
    Pre-Camp Rating: 40/74 at LDT
    Pre-Camp Rating: 39/76 at LDE
    Post-Camp Rating: ???

    1.28 Henry Humphries, LCB:

I'll be the first to admit that Henry is probably not 1st Round talent and probably only a legit IFL starter at RCB but need is what it is and forced our hand. Of course this whole draft thing is a gamble and if this kid decides to put his mind to it his potential is great!
    Height: 5'9" Weight: 184 lb.
    Pre-Camp Rating: 22/57
    Post-Camp Rating: ???

    2.25 Alvin Soriano SS:

Alvin had a decent combine and fills a need for us while bringing some Special Teams talent to the table. We're hoping his M2M skills pan out.
    Height: 5'11" Weight: 209 lb.
    Pre-Camp Rating: 22/51
    Post-Camp Rating: ???

    3.14 Walter Lang, PR:

Purely drafted as a Punt Returner. Yes, we're that needy at the position that we needed to spend a 3rd round selection chasing one.
    Height: 5'10" Weight: 191 lb.
    Pre-Camp Rating: 23/47
    Post-Camp Rating: ???

    3.25 Korey Dailey, QB:

Medium Risk/High Reward pick with tremendous upside. Chance at another Roderick Amos for the price of a late 3rd round pick. Odds are that he busts but the lottery ticket was worth the purchase price.
    Height: 6'2" Weight: 221 lb.
    Pre-Camp Rating: 5/52
    Post-Camp Rating: ???

4.29 Bennie Hesselman, RB: Hesselman's combine was getting harder to ignore as the rounds/picks went by. At 4.29 we had to take him. He's a lot better than the currently predicted 33 OVR.
    Height: 5'11" Weight: 217 lb.
    Pre-Camp Rating: 20/33
    Post-Camp Rating: ???

5.26 Frankie Dabbs, K: Better than what we have, despite our high hopes for Warren "Donald" Donaldson.
    Pre-Camp Rating: 30/69
    Post-Camp Rating: ???

5.29 J.R. Van Pelt SS->CB???: Didn't want this pick. Didn't want to hold up the draft. Hoping to move him successfully to CB after a weight drop but in all likelyhood this is another wasted pick.
    Height: 6'0" Weight: 214 lb.
    Pre-Camp Rating: 17/39
    Post-Camp Rating: ???

I liked Humphries a lot. While he's probably not as safe a bet as the other CBs, he has three excellent combines and a very interesting combination of bars. I think 1.28 was a good spot to take him, I doubt he would have made it past the first few picks of the second round. He's a bit of a gamble, but if it works he might be a steal in the late first.

Peterson, Soriano and Dailey all were also on my radar and I think Peterson and Soriano have a chance to be impact players and Dailey looks like a good prospect.

I think Dailey will throw too many picks to be a top draw QB but at that spot he was worth a shot

Nice. I've made the mistake a few times of waiting until the player signs to switch. Wanted the peek at his bars on the trade screen. The problem with that is you're guessing at how much change is the switch and how much is camp.

              Phantoms 2021 Draft is done.

Not the best draft bounty we've collected in a single off-season. I'm very excited at the idea of pairing Peterson with "Willie Bo" but other than that I'm very unexcited about the rest. We'll revisit things after camp and get a more focused view on how the future of the 2021 draft class looks...

                Post Training-Camp Update

                1.15 (1.26, 2.9, & 2.28 ) Joe Peterson, LDT->LDE:
Joe dropped a little in potential during Training Camp but we still like what he brings to the team. Looking back at what was available at the picks we traded I'm confident it was the right thing to do. "Willie Bo" is moving over to the right side and Peterson will start at LDE from day 1. If he can learn the ropes quick enough there will be a 3-4 year window of both players at full strength harassing QBs from both sides of the DLine.
                Height: 6'2" Weight: 281->272 lb.
                Pre-Camp Rating: 40/74 at LDT
                Pre-Camp Rating: 39/76 at LDE
                Post-Camp Rating: 45/72 at LDE (+6/-4)

1.28 Henry Humphries, LCB: Colossal bust of Historic IFL proportions! THE SINGLE WORST PICK IN PHANTOMS HISTORY!!! We had a lot of hopes for our two 1st Round youths, but as my attorney, Mr. Jerry Callo, tells me: "Win some, lose some".
                Height: 5'9" Weight: 184 lb.
                Pre-Camp Rating: 22/57
                Post-Camp Rating: 6/22!!!

2.25 Alvin Soriano SS: Phans love him (Idolized 97) and he could be part of the Safety rotation for quite a while if he pans out. Looks solid so far and has some Special Teams skills to contribute right away.
                Height: 5'11" Weight: 209 lb.
                Pre-Camp Rating: 22/51
                Post-Camp Rating: 26/49 (+4/-2)

3.14 Walter Lang, PR: Potential to be our punt returner, but not nearly as talented at it as we hoped.
                Height: 5'10" Weight: 191 lb.
                Pre-Camp Rating: 23/47
                Post-Camp Rating: 25/41 (+2/-6 and 64/71 PR)

3.25 Korey Dailey, QB: If Dailey could max out his bars, which will never happen, he'd be a solid player. He'll probably be playing Collect the Can with Antonio Tyler and Brady Myers in 3 seasons.
                Height: 6'2" Weight: 221 lb.
                Pre-Camp Rating: 5/52
                Post-Camp Rating: 8/46 (+3/-6)

4.29 Bennie Hesselman, RB: Doesn't appear to be much to see here.
                Height: 5'11" Weight: 217 lb.
                Pre-Camp Rating: 20/33
                Post-Camp Rating: 20/30 (0/-3)

5.26 Frankie Dabbs, K: Better than what we had, which is usually how it goes with kickers. Frankie has been handed all kicker duties for the upcoming season. Hope no games come down to figgies!
                Pre-Camp Rating: 30/69
                Post-Camp Rating: 35/65 (+5/-4)

5.29 J.R. Van Pelt SS->CB: J.R. has a chance to be a decent back-up CB in the IFL.
                Height: 6'0" Weight: 214 lb.
                Pre-Camp Rating: 17/39
                Post-Camp Rating: 19/42 at CB

My "non bust" 1st Round selection, Joe Peterson, hasn't increased a single point since TC. Worrisome indeed.

Glad I drafted Van Pelt now, who seemed like a sure "cut down day cut" even as I selected him. And hopefully Bob Walls, 4th rounder from 2020, will be at a contributing level by post-season time.
