Renegades Acquire Negrete and Robbins From Chicago
The IFL off-season is just underway, and the Houston Renegades appear to not be content with their 9-7 record last season as they've made a flurry of early moves to bolster their defense.
Despite ranking only 8th in passing yards allowed last season, GM Steve Beans wasted no time in upgrading his secondary by adding second year CB Karl Negrete. Negrete was drafted 8th overall in the 2020 draft and was the highlight of a huge package of picks and players swapping between Houston and Chicago.
When all trades finalized, Chicago sent Negrete along with 5th year outside linebacker Wade Robbins, safety Adrian Janes and middle linebacker Wendell Porter in exchange for numerous draft picks including 2021 and 2022 first rounders, and 2021 second rounder in addition to guard Gino Newsome.
Houston has traditionally been conservative regarding draft picks and haven't been without a first rounder since the 2009 draft, however it's clear Steve Beans was not happy with the Renegades 2-4 record down the stretch and wants that to change sooner rather than later.
