Solidifying What We've Got...
As weturn the corner from an exciting 2020 that saw our Phaithful fall just 4 yards short against a powerful 15-1 Tulsa squad, the internal Phocus for 2021 is... well, internal.
Highest priorities were to re-sign All-League QB, Roderick Amos, and supremely talented C, Jeff Swasey. Not only were both of these handled very quickly and early, but Amos drastically reduced his previous salary demands in hopes of securing a Championship Ring of his own.
Said Amos: "My fingers are bare. My bank account is similar to most successful QBs in this league: More than I'll ever spend. Perkins, Stanford, Burger... these guys have separated themselves from me and of course my goal is to be named along with the IFL's best. Accepting a salary at less than market value should allow the team to do other things to bring it home."
Center Swasey has been franchised and the organization is currently undecided on his long-term future. "Jeff is THE talent in the IFL at the center position." Owner/GM, Jester Blaze, informed us. "Whenever you're lucky enough to deal with such a situation you have to figure out if such a talent is best utilized on your own team or traded for value. Jeff is currently franchised as we decide our best course of action."
The Phantoms return 22/22 starters from 2020, the majority of which are under 6 years in the league. Such numbers coming from a playoff contender surely don't signify a reason for panic. While knowing full well how small the odds of winning a Championship are, and how quickly the window closes, there is still much reason for optimism in the Phantoms' Camp headed into the new season.
